Charles Pierce Can Write

(Guest Post from Big Tent Democrat)

Those of us who despaired of Weepin' Joe Lieberman (I-Green Room) years ago have not been surprised by anything he's done over the past six months. He's always been a puling, mewling opportunist who'd sell his grandmother to the Malay pirates for a pat on the head from a jackleg preacher, or 15 minutes of banter on Don Imus's Wrinkle Farm, where he recently made giddy fun of the demolition of the Geneva Conventions. He's never breathed a political moment in which he was not John Breaux in a hairshirt.

Man he's good. And right. Read the whole thing.

OK, being from louisiana, the John Breaux reference is particularly amusing... :-)

Senator Lieberman should write a book titled: A Dissenter's Story: From Vice Presidential Candidate to Scum In One Easy Step. Does anyone else see the truth in President Reagan's "I didn't leave the party; it left me" as applied to the Senator from Connecticut? Six years ago he was chosen for the number 2 spot. Somewhere between now and then the Democratic Party went to another place. And despite the fact that Lieberman votes overwhelmingly with the Democrats, his dissent over one issue has caused him to not only be rejected, but to be villified by his former comrades.

if he were an opportunist, wouldn't he have jumped on the anti-war bandwagon? maybe he is just a sensible liberal who realizes that jihadists are a bigger threat to the world than Bush.

I, for one, visit TalkLeft for other reasons than to read sophomoric rhetorical snippets like this. Please keep the fluff to a minimum.

He's always been a puling, mewling opportunist who'd sell his grandmother to the Malay pirates for a pat on the head from a jackleg preacher ... Hyperbolic and superficially clever rants are the Cheetos of the Internet. They're mass-produced, gaudily labeled, and initially tasty. But after more than a few the fake cheesy sameness turns unpleasant. And they're not very good for you.
