Condi Forgot: Tenet Did Warn on Al Qaida

(Guest Post by Big Tent Democrat)

So I have been following this story:

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she cannot recall then-CIA chief George Tenet warning her of an impending al-Qaida attack in the United States, as a new book claims he did two months before the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. "What I am quite certain of is that I would remember if I was told, as this account apparently says, that there was about to be an attack in the United States, and the idea that I would somehow have ignored that I find incomprehensible," Rice said.

It is incomprehensible, and now we know it is true:

A review of White House records has determined that George J. Tenet, then the director of central intelligence, did brief Condoleezza Rice and other top officials on July 10, 2001, about the looming threat from Al Qaeda, a State Department spokesman said Monday.

Path to 9/11? Rewrite!!

Now we need a new commission. This one is on how the 9/11 commission was "gamed" and how it was done.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Doesn't matter though. The pychos are easily distracted by their masters and will forget about this just like they've forgotten about everything else.

Quick, somebody make a movie called "The Path to 10/02" wherein it is revealed that Condi was distracted by Mark Foley's penchant for adolescent male flesh. After all, it would be irresponsible not to speculate. And we'd be enriching the debate. Teaching the controversy.

Either Rice is a liar or she has a very, very bad memory. In either case, her credibility is shot. Fortunately for her, misrepresenting the facts, even the facts surrounding the 9/11 tragedy, is not a liability with the Bush administration.

john horse, when did ms. rice gain credibility? she's always been pretty much of an empty suit, as far as i'm concerned. her sole function, in this administration, is to play the part of the "smart black women, who rises to the top ranks of political power". however, it's merely a part, lacking in substance, much as ms. rice herself.

Of course she ignored the warnings: they needed a new Pearl Harbor and they got it in spades. John Ashcroft, on the other hand, didn't ignore the warnings and stopped flying commercial, and the rumor is that was in fact Condi who warned the mayor of San Francisco not to fly on the 11th. My guess is that they thought that the hijackers would fly planes full of people to some safe haven and demand a hostage/prisoner exchange: Bush's expression at the Pet Goat reading says "WTF, this isn't what I was told would happen."

John Horse - Tell me every meeting you were in during July in 2001. Perhaps you can. I certainly cannot. Now, if you asked me about one, I'm pretty sure I would remember some things, not others and then mix the dates on others. "Now in the 7/10 meeting did you recommend margin X for bid A to company B, or did you wait until after competitor Z proposed N...." cpinva - Yeah, those black women who get off the reservation. You know they aren't smart. et al - I'm still going to go with the 7/5 meeting she spelled out in the interview. Sailor - I have been wrong. The interview was not with FNC, it was:
WASHINGTON -- Condoleezza Rice, President Bush's national security adviser, spoke to reporters at the White House on Wednesday
FNC merely carried it. Now, are you ready to believe it, or were all those reporters lying??? ;-) ;-) et al - My guess? She had some info around the last of June from Tenet, passed it on in the 7/5 meeting to those responsible for actual security... Remember NSA stands for National Security ADVISOR... Tenet may , or may not have called, the meeting may or may not have happened, or the info she thinks she said on 7/5 actually was said on 7/10. Remember she said the info was from Tenet. But either way, those responsible were warned. Bush should have fired those involved. As for Tenet, why didn't he call the FBI directly? Well, there was that Gorelick memo with the Chinse Firewall that said the CIA couldn't be involved with the FBI on domestic activities.....

BT, the evidence is indeed trickling in, but I'm afraid that the story really has little traction, sadly, apart from those already convinced, like yourself. They can spin this one till the cows come home. State Department confirms Rice met with Tenet; disputes terrorist threat information By Barbara Slavin USA TODAY October 3, 2006
Monday that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had met with then CIA director George Tenet "on or around July 10, 2001,'" but Tenet presented no new information about an impending terrorist threat to the United States.

jim, i do appreciate your hobgoblin of consistency. were i the national security advisor, i would have instant access to records of every meeting i ever attended. if she doesn't/didn't, she's even a bigger idiot than i already think she is.
cpinva - Yeah, those black women who get off the reservation. You know they aren't smart.
this particular one isn't, that's why she was tapped for the job. they knew she'd follow orders without question. of course, there are loads of savvy, smart black women in this country, the very last thing this administration wants in its ranks. of course, a really smart black woman would never have lowered herself to be part of this administration to begin with.
Well, there was that Gorelick memo with the Chinse Firewall that said the CIA couldn't be involved with the FBI on domestic activities.....
you are truly laughable. what flavor was the koolaid jim?

I expect Rice will blame the margaritas for her faulty memory and commit herself to re-hab.

ppj quotes a liar to try to make his point ... how unusual. She was called to an emergency meeting about OBL determined to attack the US ... and she says she doesn't recall it and doubted whether it took place. spin all you want, your heroes inaction allowed for the towers to fall and then screwed up afghanistran and then attacked a country that even bush admits had nothing to do with 9/11. Talk to the hand ppj, talk to the hand.

Sailor - When the link was to FNC you attacked the source. Now that you know that link was to a news conference, you claim Rice is lying. If Rice is lying about the 7/5 meeting, provide just a tad bit of evidence. That you can't proves you reject facts in favor of partisan BS. Hand yourself, Sailor. Hand yourself. cpinva - Ah, so now you are claiming that the Gorelick memo didn't exist?? Gorelick Memo You write:
were i the national security advisor, i would have instant access
Perhaps such slavish attention to unimportant details is why you aren't NSA...or equivalent position. BTW Here is what the WA Times said about it. I am sure your new fondness of the Times will give you warm feelings when you read this.
"It is hard to be totally comfortable with instructions to the FBI prohibiting contact with the United States Attorney's Offices when such prohibitions are not legally required," U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White wrote Ms. Gorelick six years before the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and at the Pentagon. "Our experience has been that the FBI labels of an investigation as intelligence or law enforcement can be quite arbitrary, depending upon the personnel involved and that the most effective way to combat terrorism is with as few labels and walls as possible so that wherever permissible, the right and left hands are communicating," she wrote.

The Gorelick memo. What does that have to do with the thread topic? Nice red herring.
