Site Commenting Problem Update

There are still problems with the comments on TalkLeft. Here's what's happening. Since I haven't been able to restore the comment template, the comments are still open to all. But, many are being directed to the "junk comment" screen and being held. They are mixed in with real junk comments -- which since comments are now open -- now approach 200 an hour. I have to log into the junk comments, find your real comments and unjunk them so they appear on the site, while deleting the junk ones. As you can imagine, this takes a tremendous amount of my time.

In a word, so long as you don't post as "anonymous," your comments will appear, they just may not be instantaneous. I am not filtering for content, point of view, or anything besides name-calling, profanity, links not in html format and the like.

I am planning on moving the entire site to Scoop from Movable Type -- and moving the site to its own dedicated server. It will look very much the same as it does now, but it will be much faster and there will be many additional features, including the ability of commenters to post their own diaries (like on Daily Kos) and for there to be separate blogs within the blog.

The redesign is under way. But, it's a huge job and ScoopHost, which I've hired to do the redesign and switch, is running into some issues and has to do a lot of original coding. I don't know how long it will take (since they charge by the hour, I hope not too long). Once they have built a test site, then I have to see if I like it. It may be that I don't think Scoop is the right software -- or it may be beyond my learning curve -- and I'm back to square one. I suspect we're still a week or so away from that point.

It's just growing pains but I know it's frustrating and we appreciate your patience.

It's your blog, ma'am, but I think Scoop might be overkill. Do you really want to try to administer a few hundred diaries?

I suspect there won't be that many diaries. There will also be a limit of one diary per day per diarist. And only TChris and I (and maybe LNILR and Big Tent Democrat who post much less frequently) will be on the main page. Like I said, it won't be a huge change, it just will be faster, easier for you to comment and allow for future growth. It's time to add some new voices, and I think diaries are a good way to go about it. But, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I can't wait until things are up and running. All of my comments have been going down the rabbit hole, never to be retrieved again. Perhaps, deservedly so. I imagine it is the same for Dadler, edger, Squeaky, Jimcee and a few others who have been silent the past week or so. Ah, well.

but NONE of my comments are appearing. at all. I see other regulars posting, I respond, but it never shows up. Ever. Then the story slides off the page. Even if I comment when it is fresh on the top of the page. 20 comments later, none mine, it falls off the page.

Peaches, you cannot imagine how frustrating it is for me to be unable to respond to your comments even when they do manage to get through. ;) I am equally ready for the new site and am curious about how the new features will turn out.

Gabriel, Ahh, but I can. I saw that you missed me so much that you actually mistook Punchy for me on another thread. I am many things, Gabriel, including a fool, but I am not a chemist and I know nothing about lip balms, cocomut oil, etc.
