The Comment Hole

Bump and Update: I've found 200 or so of your unposted comments. They are in the "junk comment" folder inside Movable Type, along with a few hundred spam comments for drugs and ringtones. I have to go through them individually to get them posted, but you should start seeing them soon.

I know many of you are having problems posting comments. Even though I've opened them up to everyone with no typekey required, many people are still getting an erroneous message stating that your comments are being held for moderation. That's not the case, but I don't know how to fix it. I think I messed up the comment listing template while trying to fix the problem.

TalkLeft is going to a new comment system after Labor Day. I'm also planning on changing the site from Movable Type to Scoop, and putting TalkLeft on its own dedicated server. That should resolve the problem and also provide commenters with more and better commenting options.

If you can't get your comment posted, email it to me with your usual user name, and I'll post it for you.

    thing about you... Now, as for mean nasty honest things....;-) TL I have had no problems this week using Firefox beyond it being a little slow.

    Re: Scoop, may I suggest that the comment rating and hiding feature be enabled? Hopefully the regulars will continue reading other regulars, regardless of rating, but I have a hunch that rewarding honest argument and hiding crap by default will encourage new blood. Assuming we don't fall prey to reflexively rating down comments we disagree with.

    ugh. ratings? why for heaven's sakes!? Green Mountain Daily has a rating system and that's why I don't comment there. It's messy.

    aug 31, 2006 talk left . this probably wont get thru but from my screen at home i see the comments section open to use without signing in but the two sections above that say NAME: and E-MAIL ADDRESS (OPTIONAL): are not accessible. i.e., the headings i just typed above are there, but no "boxes" to fill in for either one. is the system considering all such entries as "anonymous" and flagging them? orionATL

    Scoop eh? this is what the website Kuro5hin is based on correct? I am not that empressed by Scoop after taking a look at the technology. Hopefully scoop will scale better for you.     Ratings? Good for those who want to avoid dissenting viewpoints & live in a cocoon, I suppose. Usually that's not such a conscious choice, however.
