What else on the anniversary of Katrina? Two very different versions: Johnny Cash and Arlo Guthrie singing the City of New Orleans.

And here you can treat yourself to 30 seconds of the late Steve Goodman, who wrote the song.

Sorry about that first one (at 9:15); my mistake. Here's the other Steve Goodman version.

wow what a treat -- yet also a melancholy sadness with the loss of three musical icons: Johnny, Arlo & the City of New Orleans -- thanks Jeralyn. ps: great to see you recently on some of those shows, you're always thoughtful and insightful, even on the dubious ones.

Steve Goodman was the best friend, from childhood on, of my mother's late (second) husband I've been playing one of his guitars in the last couple of years. He was a great songwriter and guitarist, funny too, and died of cancer and his ashes were scattered in Wrigley Field for his love of the Cubbies (he was a real Chicago great). His mother is a great lady as well, a real pistol. You should check out some of his stuff, if you can catch what he was like live he was on fire.
