Poll: 60% of Americans Oppose Iraq War

A new CNN poll finds that 60% of Americans now oppose the Iraq war. A majority of those polled would support troop withdrawal by the end of the year.

This is the largest percentage since polling on the issue began in March, 2003.

Even more importantly the CNN article states that only 36% said they were in favor of the war. Rasmussen Reports (probably the most pro-bush pollster) latest bush approval poll gives him a rating of only 39%. Interesting that now, less people are in favor of the war than even the number who support bush. This for a president whose has tied his legacy to the war? How much more of a failure can this presidency be?

But how many think that Saddam had WMD shortly before the invasion? Last poll said about 50%. Scary.

Not to worry - he's got almost 2 1/2 years to pull a few surprises out of his hat.

So, if you put the numbers together, does that mean that almost 1/2 of the people who believe that WMDs were found still oppose the war? W is in DEEP trouble with a Dem congress.....

Really? What happened to the 60%+ that favored the war? Flip-floppers should stick together, if they had, Kerry would be president. I say the left should court the flip-floppers, after all the war is unpopular now and no one will want to admit they were in the "pro-war" camp so if the dems do flip flop the voters will turn a blind eye.

"And a majority of poll respondents said they would support the withdrawal of at least some U.S. troops by the end of the year" ..."Of those, 26 percent said they would favor the withdrawal of all troops" So what does that mean? What it doesn't mean is a majority suport a plan to bring the troops home now. This is a very murky issue and quoting poll numbers to support your strategy doesn't cut it. If the dems campaign on a retreat now strategy they will ruin their real chances of winning the house and you can forget about 2008. Right now I'm starting to become convinced that the democrats are about to ruin their chances of making big gains this November. All they had to do was do nothing and they'd probably have picked up the house by default but they can't resist going over the top...IE Lamont...and it will bite them in the ass. We'll see though.

Read "Saddam's WMD" in the WSJ from June 26, 2006. Here's a snapshot: "On Wednesday, at our request, the director of national intelligence declassified six "key points" from a National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) report on the recovery of chemical munitions in Iraq. The summary was only a small snapshot of the entire report, but even so, it brings new information to the American people. "Since 2003," the summary states, "Coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent," which remains "hazardous and potentially lethal." So there are WMDs in Iraq, and they could kill Americans there or all over the world." This evidence points to Iraq having WMD and trying to conceal them, but no one cares for whatever reason. The CIA chief said it was "old news", but I'm guessing its not old news to any of you.

The reason they consider it old news, Marc, is that WMD were never the reason for invading Iraq in the first place. The administration would look even more foolish if officials started going around saying, "See? We told you! Those WMD were there all the time, just like we said!" especially since the President has already said, "So there are no WMD? So what?"

Wow. Here we are going on 4 years since invading Iraq and we finally have a "referendum" on the war showing the compassion and empathy of Americans that are willing to stand up to their government and send a message to the rest of the world that America cares. Uh huh. I've got my last $20 down on a Pro-War Republican winning Lieberman's Ex-Senate seat... It's a sure thing, but I know some of you buy all this media garbage. Any takers? BTW...how many of you used this "catalyst" to donate to the Democratic Party?

Sorry, I can't afford the odds. You see, the actual odds of a Paul Wellstone coming out of Connecticut in November in our "free" and "fair" electoral system are probably somewhere close to the odds on the lottery...and I'm not talking about the scratch off tickets, I'm talking about the multi-state Powerball-type odds. It's Howard Dean all over again. Public relations hype to suck in unwitting Progressive dollars. Don't buy into it. I won't. Incidentally, I'll believe these war polls when I stop hearing WOMEN I know walking around the office talking about how what Israel is doing in Lebanon is NECESSARY. When women lose their sense of empathy, you know the Kool-Aid has become pervasive. On second thought, even if I didn't hear what I hear everyday, I still wouldn't believe the polls...because..they're. ..polls... ...from...the media.

It must be hard to be around them when they are cheering on the slaughter. They seem to have been convinced by our liberal media that the Lebanese people are less than human, terrorists, terrorist collaboraters or sympathizers, and because of all that, deserve to be punished. The women in your officeare empathisizing, but with the Israelis, not the Lebanese people. Good thing have not discoveres that the 2 and a half million woman and children in Lebanon are basically exactly the same as them. If they knew, I'm sure that their heads would just spontaneously explode.

A little bit of difference, Iraq never attacked us, was not a threat to us, and had little to do with us. Whether or not you agree with Israel, the US had no justification to invade Iraq
