The Lies and Crimes of President Bush

The answer to the question posed in this post -- How Many Laws Has the Adminstration Broken? -- can be found (at least in part) in the 350 page Final Investigative Report of the House Judiciary Committee Democratic Staff (available here). Section I of the Report, dealing with "The Downing Street Minutes and Deception, Manipulation, Torture, Retribution and Coverups in the Iraq War," was released in December. Section II, addressing "Unlawful Domestic Surveillance and the Decline of Civil Liberties Under the Administration of George W. Bush," was released in June, while an addendum brings the investigation up to date.

A summary of the report is available here (pdf). From the summary:

In brief, we have found that there is substantial evidence the President, the Vice-President and other high ranking members of the Bush Administration misled Congress and the American people regarding the decision to go to war in Iraq; misstated and manipulated intelligence information regarding the justification for such war; countenanced torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment in Iraq; permitted inappropriate retaliation against critics of their Administration; and approved domestic surveillance that is both illegal and unconstitutional.

    OK, these are the laws they broke after September 11th. But what about September 11th itself? Just the holes in the official story create a strong probability of collusion, but when taken together with other "coincidences" and "unexplained behavior" (i.e., the My Pet Goat Incident) that day, doesn't it cry foul? I mean, think about it: if Card told Junior that time, "We have started operations, all is on schedule," wouldn't his reaction make more sense? I'm sorry, but the list of crimes for the Bush Junta starts a lot earlier than that.

    the chilling fact is that the constitution continues to be shredded by these criminals as i am typing these words... absolutely NOTHING has slowed them down in nearly 6 years and, god help us all, we still have more to look forward to, all the way up to 20 january 2009 - IF we last that long... And, yes, I DO take it personally

    one might argue that we saw our first glimpse of this with gordon Liddy, then much more active and unabashed with oliver north. Both convicts that know they committed treason, and are proud of it yet. The Germany after the corporal blew his brain out was full of people that committed crimes against humanity, and weren't so proud to have killed for their leader too. perhaps our war criminals will eventually face the same fate as the architects of nazi germany's gang. and perhaps one day there won't be war

    Treason I say! And I'll keep saying it until they drag George W. Bush up the Capitol steps chained from head to foot in the ignominious shame and disgrace he so rightly deserves. The president works for us, and he lied and deceived all of us in order to invade Iraq and trap us in this Middle East debacle forever altering world history. He subverted democracy in order to pursue his personal agenda and turn our country over to a warmongering lunatic fringe group. He knowingly betrayed the American people and the Constitution of the United States. Few more blatant and egregious examples of treason exist in human history, it is in fact unprecedented. If the Republic is to survive, this man and others in this administration must go on trial for their crimes.

    I'm sorry, but we haven't brought up Pinochet years after his crimes were well known. And Pinochet was deposed and discredited and only a proxy for US presidents. There is NO way GW gets prosecuted. There is even little chance that the lapdog media will even say anything nasty about him. They obsess over "the damage that can be done by even investigation of wrongdoing by any president". Don't think that GW and cronies haven't noticed how adamant our media is about protection of crimes committed in the presidents' office. It started long before Bush even ran for office or spent time in the Guard getting drunk and schmoozing with politicos while others died for this country.

    We all know of BushCo's crimes and treasons. IF this is a "country based on the rule of law," what's the next step, and why hasn't it been taken? Will it ever be?

    If by "high treason" we mean gross deception of the American people at a "cost" (or profit for many) of billions and the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives; that's already occurred numerous times in the last fifty years. High treason is the status quo. They lied about "the Communist foothold" in Latin America; they lied about "the missle gap"; they lied about who LHO was, and what happened in Dallas; they lied about Tonkin Gulf; they lied about the history of S.E Asia and the Vietnamese independence movement; they lied about seeking peace while escalating the war; they lied about spying on and covertly attacking U.S citizens who expressed a contrary point of view; the lied about "just say no" when cold-blooded, cold warriors had to start relying on other means to finance their dirty little wars; they've been lying right along about wanting to spread "freedom and democracy" when the no. 1 priority has almost always been to preserve the status quo anywhere that it served the interests of the ruling class to do so; they lie through their teeth about wanting to promote a "culture of life" when what they thrive on is a culture of strife (and fear). Bush, the neocons and "regime change in the M.E" is just a couple more turns of the screw - in the same direction.
