VP Dick Cheney was booed loudly today as he threw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals' home opener. Crooks and Liars has the video.

Daily Kos reports:

To say the Veep was booed would be an understatement. Fox News and CNN both carried the first pitch LIVE - and the sellout crowd was loud and overwhelmingly anti-Cheney. He was booed ONTO the field, at the mound, as his pitch made it to the Nationals' catcher, and as he left the field. There's no room for debate. The guy was jeered off the field.

UPDATE: Wonkette has the pool report: "Gorgeous day, 70 degrees with happy, red-capped turnout est at 25k. VPOTUS stepped out onto field dressed in khakis and a Nats bomber jacket to the sound of thunderous boos and catcalls..."

UPDATE II: Garrett at FishBowlDC wonders whether the media tried to censor the boos.

    When I read old Dick was throwing the pitch, I thought "is he nuts"? He must know how despised he is. Heck, he deserves the boos more than Carlos Beltran. He only under achieved one year.

    I keep picturing him breaking down and having a Sinead O'Conner moment; grabbing a mic and quoting from Nixons Im not a crook speech or something. Btw, very selective warning policy around here. How much exactly does Jim contribute?

    I watched the FOX clip posted at think progress. Not a boo in earshot. Amazing how FOX can make a villain into a hero by a little sound editing. The announcers just talked about the 'weather'.

    For a guy paranoid about security, he didn't seem too worried about standing out in the open. I get the feeling he actually thought this might be GOOD for his poll numbers. That baseball fans just COULDN'T hate him as much as everyone else. That he'd use the national pasttime to get some positive snaps. Um, guess again. Know your audience, it's said. Apparently he hasn't a clue how non-existent his is -- beyond the safe confines of Neo-Conland, that is.

    nobody loves the idea of cheney getting booed more than i do, but i listened to the clip on crooks & liars, and i swear, it just sounded like ambient stadium crowd noise to me. and i'm a stand up comic, believe me, i know boo's when i hear them.

    skippy, it's difficult for a stadium full of boos to come through on a mic. Also, if you want a laugh, check out the Fox News version of the clip. Notice anything, erm, different about the audio?

    Squeaky: It was in 'the public interest' to erase all the boos. Boos improve the moral of the terrists, show them that America is weak, lengthen the war, and utimately kill Americans. What part of that dontchyoo git? Poor ole' Dick probably cried hisself to sleep over this. After all, his entire long and glorius career has been one of selfless sacrifice and dedication to the welfare of "the little people". He truly cares. How could they be so insensitive?

    In the picture MSNBC published Cheney has that deer caught in the sights expression that Hyman Roth had in the Miami airport on his return from Israel. George, listen to me carefully: "Your father did business with Hyman Roth. Your father respected Hyman Roth. But your father never trusted Hyman Roth."

    I'm surprised the wacks didn't cry about all the Hispanics on the field. No more Dominican short stops! No more Puerto Rican Center Fielders! Why isn't the INS in the outfield askin' Carlos Beltran for his Green Card! No more $15 million/yr. illegal aliens takin' jobs away from Americans! Bring me the head of Mariano Rivera.     Rumor has it that he was accompanied by Laura Bush. Before taking the field he threw her onto the diamond. The ump went over to tell him, 'No, mister vice president, we asked you here to throw out the first pitch!'

    The Wonkette pool report was a self admitted spoof.
