An Allegany Co. NY ADA was fired Thursday for attending a white supremacist meeting in Northern Virginia according to AP last night.

[ADA] Michael Regan was dismissed after officials learned he had attended a meeting of the New Century Foundation last week in northern Virginia. Allegany County District Attorney Terrence Parker said Regan's "recent activities will continue to significantly disrupt and impair his effectiveness as an assistant district attorney and the operations of the entire district attorney's office."

Mere attendance may not have been the issue; he was quoted in last Saturday's Washington Post:

[Regan] was quoted in Saturday's Washington Post as calling participants at the conference "white preservationists" and saying U.S. policies on immigration, trade and demographics have put the country on the wrong path. He also referred to European Christian Americans as "an endangered species."

"Those kinds of comments are absolutely inappropriate for a public official," said Joel Levy, regional director for the Anti-Defamation League, which characterizes the foundation's ideology as "intellectualized, pseudoscientific white supremacy."

Regan has also been a part-time instructor at the Alfred University College of Business since 2003. University President Charles Edmonson said his future there would be determined "by our needs and his capabilities."

    He also referred to European Christian Americans as "an endangered species."
    Oh yeah, a segment of the population that makes up like 75% of this country, and 75-90% of Canada, Europe, Australia, NZ, etc. is really gonna be wiped off the face of the earth in a few years. Geez, what a tool.

    I would expect that kind of comment to get him a promotion in the Bush administration.

    If only other public officials who have similar beliefs would go public so they could be canned too. Unfortunately they know to keep quiet so they can continue to secretly abuse their power and use other justifications provided by the O'Reillys of the world...

    Regan has also been a part-time instructor at the Alfred University College of Business since 2003. Where are the Stalinists who want to purge our universities of seditious professors? Oh yeah, that's only "liberal" profs.

    The New Racism is still strong and active in America. These pseudo intellectuals now wrap their Hate in code and denial, ie. Afirmative action is reverse descrimination! If all black folks had forced abortions crime would be reduced, the Holacaust didn't really happen and so it goes, on and on. It goes all the way through our society up into the W.H. and the Oval Office.

    when fear is used to drive intolerance, bigotry, xenophobia and hatred, violence is rarely far behind... the southern poverty law center has always done a good job keeping track of intolerance and hate and has a good report on some of the vicious, foaming individuals behind the anti-immigration movement... it's long, well-researched and readable... here's a taste...
    One of them says he'd like to bring nuclear weapons to the border. Another vows to stop the alleged Mexican invasion of Idaho. Several have links to white supremacist hate groups; others are given to dire warnings of horrible diseases, "barbaric" practices, and secret Latino conspiracies to "reconquer" the American Southwest. These are the nativists -- the new crop of activists who are driving the movement that exploded last spring with the Minuteman Project in Arizona, a month-long effort by armed civilians to seal the border with Mexico.
    i'm always both astounded and vastly amused when i hear whites, descended from northern european stock, call for returning the united states to the white christians who founded it... it just seems to me that if going by the rule of those who got there first, particularly when you're calling yourselves "nativists," is a very slippery slope... i know a few native american tribes who could make a pretty legitimate case for tossing those cheeky whiteys out on their collective asses...     Some interested student should replace 'white' with 'black' in the above and let's see how this site would react then. Kinda like this: Blagojevich stands behind NOI member on Illinois hate crimes commission. As for those 'reconquista meetings', there was one such last month. It featured Fabian Nunez and a Mexican Senator.

    Well, guess what happens in Herndon doesn't neccessarily stay in Herndon. Reminds me of the shirtless gay priest outed in a wire service Mardi Gras photo who got sacked after his vacation or the judge who smoked the joint at a Rolling Stones concert. While this young dodo still hasn't figured out the permissible limits for politics for sensitive jobs like public prosecutor, FWIW, Wellsville in Allegany County out near Buffalo in southwestern New York is basically pretty rural backwater in which an ADA would typically be doing traffic court and similar misdemeanor offenses in the local Town courts. Not a very high level of public official.

    Oh, and I wanted to add that the original WaPo story about the racist convo here was pretty funny... All about how they wanted to have the attendees wear coats and ties (presumably to avoid offensive T shirts, robes, etc.) to avoid getting slagged by the press. That was the lede of the article...prosecutor boy's infelicitous remarks were buried, noteworthy only because he was dumb enough to allow himself to be quoted and the subsequent hometown blowback.

    Well, if and when that happens, you be sure to click your heels and march on in and test your theory. Personally, I don't see much of a threat for reverse apartheid catchin' on in this Country, but you know best.

    Did he discriminate against non-whites in his work? That's a case for firing. This I'm not so sure. I am troubled when someone can lose their job over their views or their activities off the clock, no matter how dispicable those views and activities are. If there is proof his bigoted beliefs effect how he handles cases, he should be seriously punished, but just attending a meeting and speeking freeely? Be careful what you wish for people.

    The WaPo article linked above is certainly interesting. They seem to have certain biases. Rather than reporting, they provide propaganda. There have been various Chicano confabs in SoCal held by MEChA and also by a UCR professor. I really can't imagine the WaPo ever providing a similar treatment to those meetings. Here are some interesting links about those: link, link Once again, an open-minded student is encouraged to try to either find the WaPo writing a similar article about a meeting of similar non-whites, or convert the reports from AN's latest meeting into the WaPo style. Then, post that and see how many names you're called.

    Again, was it a Chicano Supremacy Meeting? That's what I thought. Somehow, having grown up in the era of Grand Pappy Amos McCoy goin' "Dagnabit, if I get my hands on that slippery little, good-for-nothin' wetback, I'll ring his gol darn neck. Pepino!" I don't sense Born in East LA becoming the new National Anthem. But, by all means, teacher, become thine own student researcher. I'll call your bigmediabluff. If you think there's reverse racist gold in them there hills, knock yourself out.

    Why do the wingers immediatly get defensive when racism is exposed and criticized? Oh yeah,I forgot, thats one of thier most reliable base demographs.

    Kudos to Allegany County DA Parker for having the brains to get rid of this idiot. Good to know there are some intelligent public officials still left in the country after all. It would have been even better if he had also brought charges against Regan for inciting hate crimes, but maybe that's too much to ask?
