Gov. Schwarzenegger: Spare Tookie's Life

Defense lawyers and prosecutors in Stanley Tookie Williams' case got 30 minutes to argue their case for and against clemency to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today. He is not expected to decide today.

Clemency is an act of grace and mercy, provided to the executive branch. It is a process by which the Governor can consider information not available to the court or jury at the time it determined guilt and sentence.

Newsweek today examines the Governor's dilemna. TalkLeft's position is here and here.

There's not a lot of time left on this. Just on the chance that the Governator is influenced by these things-- I have no idea if he is-- everybody should sign the petition here. After all, there's not a whole lot else that anybody can do.

Perhaps Governor Schwarzenegger should apply the same standards of mercy to Tookie as Tookie did to his four victims. And just as Tookie laughed and joked about the sounds that came from the victim that Tookie shot in the back maybe we will all get the opportunity to laugh as Tookie heads out on his Journey to hell. We can only hope.
