Harris Poll: White House Misleads Public

The Wall Street Journal (free link) reports on a Harris poll finding that a majority of U.S. adults believe the Bush administration generally misleads the public on current issues, while only 32% believe the information provided by the administration is generally accurate.

When asked about former Vice Presidential Chief of Staff Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who has been indicted on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements, more than half of U.S. adults say the situation indicates "a larger problem in the Bush administration," while 35% say it was an "isolated incident." About 82% of Democrats say it indicates a larger problem, while 70% of Republicans feel the Libby case is an isolated incident.

Harris poll finding that a majority of U.S. adults believe the Bush administration generally misleads the public on current issues, Duh.... With all the left wing media reports that always concentrait on the negative & never the positive, how can a majority of the public (who watch only network news) come to any other conclusion?

70% of Republicans feel the Libby case is an isolated incident. They also feel that their great-grandparents rode around on brontosauruses.

From Rights of Man: "War...from it's productiveness, as it easily furnishes the pretence of necessity for taxes and appointment to places and offices, becomes a principle part of the system of old Governments; and to establish any mode to abolish war, however advantageous it might be to Nations, would be to take from such Government the most lucrative of it's branches. The frivolous matters upon which war is made, shew (show) the disposition and avidity of Governments to uphold the system of war, and betray the motives upon which they act. As war is the system of Government on the old construction, the animosity which Nations reciprocally entertain, is nothing more than what the policy of their Governments excites, to keep up the spirit of the system. Each Government accuses the other of perfidy, intrigue, and ambition, as a means of heating up the imagination of their respective Nations, and incensing them to hostilities. Man is not the enemy of man, but through the medium of a false system of Government." Thomas Paine

Come on, BB. Be serious. The mainstream media has been so compliant for so long on this fiasco, that exucse is just plain kindergarten weak. And don't you think the Iraqis are reading the tea leaves of US public opinion? It took no time between the honorable congressment Murtha's call for withdrawal and the Iraqi coalition (when do they EVER agree?) calling for a timetable for getting US troops out. What does this say? Come on, bro, think. It says there's a huge disconnect here. The Bush administration thinks we have to stay UNTIL the problem in Iraq is solved; while Iraqis think our leaving is what will help SOLVE the problem. Put two and two together.
