Imagine a political leader with genuine concern for the poor and morking class here in the US.

Here's to everyone having a safe and enjoyable Thansgiving week--travel this time of year can be an utter pain. If you're lucky enough to spend it with extended family, don't kill anybody, and instead cherish the moment. If, like me and my wife, you're separated from parents for the first time in many holidays, chin up! Also, one of my best friends left Iraq today, his extended contract being now finished. His wife is a colleague of mine and the relief and joy she's experiencing is overwhelming. He'll be in Kuwait for an indefinite period of time, but will in all likelihood be with his family well ahead of Christmas. So I am thankful for that beyond what I can say here.

Sorry for the doublpost, but I meant to add, I am thankful for all those who are still overseas this time of year, when it has to be the hardest. I have been a nharsh critic of this war from the beginning, but that doesn't change the fact that our soldiers have more balls than I can imagine. Thanks to all of them.

Well said glanton. No matter your position on the war, you have to give our marines, soldiers, airmen, and sailors their props. Thanks and give em hell.

Happy thanksgiving to all. In a bit of news, tonight will be Ted Koppel's last broadcast. This ends the era of the "old" jorunalist, Koppel's 25+ year run at Nightline will end the last of the established long term anchors on a news program.

"Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve; In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve. If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes, They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines."

BAGHDAD, Iraq Nov 22, 2005 — A suicide car bomber attacked a police patrol Tuesday in the northern city of Kirkuk, killing at least 17 people, and three U.S. soldiers died in two separate attacks, pushing the American death toll in Iraq to 2,100, officials said.

So, I know it's illegal to sell my vote, as in "I'll vote for Badnarik if you give me $20". Anybody know if I can bet my vote? As in "if that memo is authenticated, I promise to vote for a Democrat for the next president."

Happy Thanksgiving all. I'm really amazed at the lack of acknowledgement of JFK's death this year. Thanks BB for reminding us. I still remember the teacher crying when she announced it to the class. I can't think of another year when it wasn't trumpeted on this day. In that light, I'd like to quote from JFK:
We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans, born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Stay safe everyone, and watch that tryptophan load! And to the troops, thank you. And congratulations on the success of your mission. Time to come home now. It was raining in Milwaukee, WI on 11/22/63. I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember the TV I watched it on. Triangulated fire. He never had a chance.

TChris, You posted a few months ago about a supposed extra-judicial killing by the local police in Utica NY of an unarmed fellow. Well there was an independent investigation into the shooting and the police were found prudent in thier actions. The victim's family and the Rev. Daley asked for the investigation and it was done fair and square. Blood alchohol level .27 and other drugs found in the autopsy. The pellet gun that he threatened the police as well as his wife and children with was a realistic replica of a 9mm pistol. It was a tragic death but I would like to hear from TChris a follow-up to this story. I would be more than happy to help as this is my neighborhood. Somehow I doubt that there will be a follow-up here because if there is one thing that doesn't happen on TalkLeft is an apology to the police when it is deserved. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to know more as you mentioned it here in the first place. If you don't want to know more it just means that you can't enflame the proles so it doesn't matter to you.
