An open thread today. Because everyone needs to take a day to regroup before getting ready for battle. It's going to be a long week. Those of us who are no longer 20 and maintain day jobs, need to pace ourselves.

    Do I have to use Internet Exploder to make this type-key thing remember me? I tell it to keep me signed in for two weeks, and I can come back in 1/2 hour and I have to log in again! Firefox does not even remember my password! Speaking of Firefox, anyone know what the current percentage of Talkleft visitors using Firefox is?

    I use Firefox, mostly. Michael Ditto has done a great job making sure that TL translates well to Firefox. You might try screwing around with your IE privacy/security settings if the typekey business is too much of a hassle.

    Johnny - When I got a new computer MSIE wouldn't let me sign in at all. That problem went away after awhile, and I can now sign in, but, same as you, 1/2 later I have to do it again. I think the problem is in TypeKey/MT. Firefox works better, and I sometimes use it for TalkLeft. Problem is, I'm not sure how well FireFox and AOL will support each other long term, so I don't want it as my default. Oh well, we can thank the spammers for needing security...

    Well, looks like the RWNJ Michelle Malkin, and her fellow ideologues over at Little Green Foilables are all atwitter over the gravest theat facing this country...the American Friends Service Committie. Yes, the Quakers are coming to take our freedoms. Apparently, these idiots believe that the AFSC national commemoration of the death of the 2000th soldier in Iraq is a party, a celebration of their deaths. These people have no conscience, and no clue about Quaker values. I'm pretty sure they would sacrifice small fuzzy creatures to satan if they thought it would further their own political agenda. Personally, I love seeing things like this because it shows mainstream America the true ugly face of the right wing and their cheerleaders. Why do the Quakers hate our freedoms?

    The Miers nomination is in big trouble. Will Bush push forward? How will he withdraw the nomiation? Who on earth will he put up next?

    "Who on earth will he put up next?" Without a doubt, someone who he has known for ten years. It's a toss-up between Moamar Kadafi and Islam Karimov. Both have long legal records, and both have oil. What other issues are there? They can cram the Constitutional law. Bush does.

    The problem isn't your browser, the problem is with TypeKey. Apparently the cgi program isn't effectively dropping a cookie (or perhaps reading the cookie) to tell it you are an authorized poster. I have the same problem whether I use IE or Firefox or Mozilla. Too bad, it really is annoying.

    Paul in LA, the constitutional law has been desecrated by the left in the last few yrs. Who thinks local governments should confiscate private property and give it to another private entity? Who thinks avowed homosexuals should get the "right" to sleep in tents with young boys? All the other things pale against these basic property and freedom of association rights.

Chalabi, who is now Iraq's deputy prime minister, is expected to meet with Treasury Secretary John Snow next month to discuss the progress of economic reconstruction, a Treasury spokesman said on Sunday.... ....A State Department spokesman said Chalabi could also meet with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
    war and peace This is over the top and if Chalabi becomes the ruler of Iraq I will be sure that this is all some sinister B grade movie. How is it possible that he even got to be Associate Prime Minister.....Oh, that's right,his election was won with a secret ballot. Iraqis voted for parties and did not know any names until after they were elected. Had they been announced before they would have risked being killed.. Hmmm... Why would anyone want to kill them? Remember when Chalabi was looting secret intelligence files from the Interior Ministry while everyone else was busy looting from the the museums. Of course the oil ministry was not looted as it was the only area protected by the occupying US forces. I guess it is old news. From George Packer two years ago:

    CSPAN had a great discussion between Seymore Hersch and Scott Ritter about Iraq. I missed the first 20 minutes but the last 70 were gold.
