Saturday's Million More Movement in Washington D.C. brings together individuals who hope "to create a lasting and broad national movement with the goal of eliminating poverty and injustice." These lofty goals expand the framework created by the Million Man March ten years ago.

The Million Man March 10 years ago focused on black men and the challenges facing them. This time, organizers are hoping to target issues that cross gender and racial lines.

The Movement's website has more details.

    Charley- That's because Farrakhan is a mere fringe voice to, and treated as such, by most Americans. Kind of like the Right wing and the old gambling hypocrite Billy Bennett, or gay hating Jerry Falwell, and James Dobson.
    did I forget to mention that we white folks blew up the levees in NO to ruin it for blacks?
    It's trollish comments like this that lead me to view you as the RWNJ version of PIL. Actually, he has an edge on you in intellectual legitimacy due to your fundamental inability to answer a simple yes or no question.

    But it is Farrakhan running the show. "I believe that for the small numbers of Jewish people in the United States, they exercise a tremendous amount of influence on the affairs of government ...Yes, they exercise extraordinary control, and black people will never be free in this country until they are free of that kind of control ... " Meet The Press interview, April 1997 "It seems like being gay or whatever sin you wish to be a part of is okay ... but I have the duty to lift that gay person up to the standard to ask if they want to live the life that God wants them to or live the lifestyle that they want to live." Boston speech, August 1997 etc. etc. So a reasonable person could ask a question about the sincerity of all of this.

    On the positive side, there are a lot more organizations involved this time. But keep an eye out for extreme homophobic rhetoric.

    As George Will once instructed: the beauty of the American system is that coalition of people who are like-minded on a single, particular issue can come together to affect a societal change. That coalition will then fall apart without a purpose. ...politics make strange bedfellows. So, a free-thinking, secular, liberal, humanist such as mysef can magnanimously stand with Kenn Starr as he argues against a death-penalty case (despite the fact I would not accept help from him if I was broken and bloodied and laying in a ditch somewhere). Find the common ground, people!

    Meanwhile, the transfer of GIGANTIC LARGESSE to the hotel/motel CHAINS in Louisiana, figured at half a billion dollars ($59 per refugee per night) is clearly intended to provide funds to those owners for the build-out of the LAS-VEGASING of New Orleans. What a murderous cult of traitors. The 'levee-explosion theory' is a natural outgrowth of levee exploding with underwater high-explosives by Navy Seals while all the black residents were being held incommunicado without food or water. Converting New Orleans into a corporate haven is actually a form of genocide. Anyone who has ever been to that area knows just what a cultural treasure it is, or was. Under the illegal and unconstitutional Bush Coup, the city will be converted. Casino Building is the REAL conservative movement. That's why traitors like Grover Norquist, Abramov, Bennett and DeLay take bribe and pay-to-play money from corrupt tribal leaders -- money they seem able to get in quantity, while the BIA/Interior Dept. still can't seem to find the $9 Billion owed to tribal individuals. Let the Poor Suffer, It's Good For Their Souls, while the corrupted rich make snares of gold for compulsive gamblers. What compassion!

    In your quest for common ground I hope you don’t find yourself sitting side-by-side with an evil racist piece of trash like Farrakhan. This is the very reason I don’t attend the anti-war protests in my city; I couldn’t stomach walking among the anti-free trade/ anti-globalization/ anti-progress tinfoil hat stink. You can’t wash that off; so you know, lay down with dogs…

    Charley- I believe I already stated that Farrakan is a part of the fringe, which I usually ignore, as they have little influence outside of their "true believers", which I also showed (and you somehow believe that it to be misdirection) is also how I, and many others view his right wing equivilants. Yes it's a run on sentence. No, I don't care. As for your accusation of willful ignorance, coming from someone who argues as you do, I'll take it as a compliment everytime. Before accusing others of intellectual shortcomings, you might want to make sure you aren't the guy who can't answer a simple yes or no question about what you stated were your beliefs. Sorry you can't see that amongst your spluttering. BTW- How's Algernon doing?

Given all the cover you have given to Bush in the last few years, don't you think YOU'RE part of the stink that won't wash off? If you refuse to protest a genocidal war because you might have to stand next to someone you disapprove of, then you aren't really outraged. Your R team is doing anal intercourse conga lines in the Lincoln Bedroom. Bush is splattering innocent families against their kitchen walls. Our freedom and most of our wealth is being sold to Bush's corporations. If your outrage list starts with people who hate television commercials and would like a high-tech CAFE standard, then you have almost no moral consciousness at all.

    At least in terms of Keith Boykin and reaching out to the gay community, it all turned out to be a big lie. Not only did Boykin get turned away at the podium where he was scheduled to speak, he was treated to a homophobic tirade from the march organizer.
