Culture War Confusion

by TChris

Senator Sam Brownback wants to be the next faith based president. To prove his mettle (and to increase his name recognition), he's taken on the role of "the Republican most publicly questioning the Supreme Court nomination of Harriet E. Miers." Is Brownback prepared to take on Pat Robertson?

"They're going to turn against a Christian who is a conservative picked by a conservative president, and they're going to vote against her for confirmation?" Mr. Robertson said Wednesday on his television program. "Not on your sweet life, if they want to stay in office."

At the last Republican National Convention, Brownback "rallied a closed-door meeting of Christian conservatives with calls for a 'cultural war.'" It sounds like Brownback will soon be at war with his own culture.

Are we witnessing a 'Fort Sumpter' moment amongst the right wing? Is this a signal for civil war in their ranks? Sure looks like that to me. An insane foreign adventure, taking scores of thousands of lives and maiming scores of thousands more is soaking up so much of the Budget the real conservatives want to cut it in order to pay for Katrina reconstruction; political scandals cutting to the core of national defense (a spy in the freakin' WHITE HOUSE, for Chrissakes!), all Hell breaking loose around the world, and...these jerks want to argue over who gets to play the fiddle while the planet burns? 'Mayberry Machiavellis', indeed. Sheesh.

Brownback certainly could be dangerous in a crowded GOP primary. He is crazy, don't get me wrong, but Christian Fundamentalists love him. For all the Brownback news you can handle check out: http://www.theantisam.com "Dedicated to the Savaging of Senator Sam Brownback"
