New York Subway Terror Threat

I hope the terror threats against the New York subway system turn out to be non-credible. I hope it's another distraction by the Administration. Every time they get really bad press like they are now with possible imminent indictments of top-level officials, the terror threat goes up. But, rather than treat them like the little boy who cried wolf, if you live in New York, give them the benefit of the doubt and stay vigilant and safe.

And don't forget to make sure the cops keep the 4th Amendment in mind. Get a TalkLeft Subway Tote to carry your possessions in and hand the cops when it's time for a search of your bags. Yes, you have to consent to the search but you can without a word let them know what you think of the intrusion. If you've got a college kid in New York, send them one. We can't remind the authorities often enough of our right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.

As they have cried wolf so many times before, and Bloomberg re election is in full swing it is hard to take it seriously. They are saying both that this is the most credible threat to date and that everyone should take the subway as usual because we should not let terrorists change our way of life. Who are the terrorists in this case? Evidently baby carriages are the most suspect devices this time. Hope it is not the real thing. Why don't they go terrorize some red states and leave NYC alone? BTW Yesterday Bloomberg NY property owners got checks in the mail, I got $400. as a thank you refund for sticking around after the WTC disaster. He is trying to buy votes and keep the public scared. Things are bad when you do not know who the real terrorists are.

Did anybody have the stomach to listen to Bush's speech today about how U.S. involvment in Iraq is keeping terrorists from terrorizing the U.S. I admit, I didn't listen to it all the way through, because he makes me sick, so I didn't hear this subway part, but wouldn't this be a direct contradiction of the Bush Protection Plan of Iraqi occupation if the subways of New York got bombed?

"Every time they get really bad press...the terror threat goes up." Which is, btw, TREASON. 'Hey, you didn't stop me yet! So obviously you agreed.' --GWB, waving a mushroom cloud like a scepter.

This bomb threat is probably a winger revenge for the Neocon song. At least it wasn't an anthrax letter.

my understanding is that this assessment was made by the NY authorities, not the administration. in fact, there seems to be a disconnect between the two as the Washington folks think this threat seems to lack credibility.

What else is new. Anybody with half a brain knows there are people in this world who want to set off bombs and kill innocent people. The trick is to make them think it doesn't scare us. Fear mongering on tv and in newspapers helps the terrorist cause. One thing I find sketchy are the reports saying the info is coming out of Iraq. Could this be a new propaganda campaign to gain support for the occupation? Or did the interrogators of prisoners torture some guy enough for him to make up an elaborate story of 18 baby-stroller bombers? One thing is for sure...it's a damn shame our govt. has so little credibility left that we can't believe a word they say.

The terror threat was a Hoax. I wish elected officials would stop spending our tax dollars to fund their self serving cries of wolf. This particular threat was clearly a re-election ploy by Bloomberg as he was told before announcing the threat by the WH press secretary that it was not credible, while telling NYers that it was the most credible threat to date. Sadly, Fascism 101 still works like a charm. Bloomberg will get a boost, the fact that is was a hoax will get little or no media attention, fear will flourish and the incumbent mayor will be re-elected, works like magic. link via atrios
