NOLA Police Chief Retiring

by Last Night in Little Rock

CNN just reported that NOLA Police Supt. Eddie Compass is retiring as soon as a transition can be established. CNN.com reports today that 15% of the NOLA PD was AWOL, and Compass has determined that a special tribunal will be established to determine their fates.

Update: Wednesday's Times-Picayune and NY Times have the story.

No thanks brother....Bush is to blame for the federal response only. It's up to the citizens of LA to hold their officials accountable. It's up to the citizens of the USA to hold federal officials accountable. That's where I come in, since I am not a resident of LA. One lesson we can learn from both state and federal officials...corruption and cronyism are not victimless crimes.

This is a shame, the three people who should "retire" are Bush, Nagin and Blanco. Inept leadership at every level. Chief Compass is a hero who did the best he could in an impossible situation while being pulled in every political direction. I hope he has a good retirement and is remembered fondly by the citizens of N.O.

See, here you go, justpaul. You could say, "Why won't the NOLA police arrest Broussard for scoring political points by lying about that dying woman?" or, "If Eddie Compass can't direct his police to arrest Broussard, then I'm glad he's retiring." Etc., etc.

kdog has it about right although Supt. Compass didn't show well during the biggest crisis that his ballywick had ever seen. He came up short and has chosen to retire. Good on him. Hopefully they can replace him with someone more suited for the job at hand. I think they call what Compass is doing; 'getting out while the getting is good'.

NOLA cops AWOL? What are they? Soldiers? Accountable? Sure hope nobody brings up accountability for ones actions is dodging a dangerous/losing mission here... I might have to remind them of Bush/Clintons activities when they were but young men...
