What Different War?

Eric Alterman: "Nope, Nothing at all like Vietnam."

Using enemy body counts as a benchmark, the U.S. military claimed gains against Abu Musab Zarqawi's foreign-led fighters last week even as they mounted their deadliest attacks on Iraq's capital.

But by many standards, including increasingly high death tolls in insurgent strikes, Zarqawi's group, al Qaeda in Iraq, could claim to be the side that's gaining after 2 1/2 years of war. August was the third-deadliest month of the war for U.S. troops.

let's see, the tet offensive occurred in jan. 1968, roughly 3.5 years after the tonkin gulf resolution was passed, at the behest of president johnson, based on what turned out to be a fantasy. so when can we expect the "ramadan offensive"?

An attack on Syria is imminent.

"The problem is, I have seen no meaningful" goal posts, said Anthony Cordesman, an analyst with the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, "and a great many conflicting points" on U.S. claims to be winning against the insurgency.
Yes, they may very well lash out at Syria as they look for scapegoats. I thought that they would have attacked Iran already even via the air, except that they're bogged down.

No, desert, they are following their plan slavishly, as they must under their form of occult conspiracy. "(Iraq), Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, Sudan, Somalia" and "partition Saudi Arabia." It's all written down, published as a great taunt and a great counting coup on democracy and a LODESTONE for their future actions, just like a child playing hopscotch has to pick up their markers. These people are SUPERSTITIOUS sociopathic syphlitics. They are not sane. But they ARE predictable. They have to be. It's part of the game.

PPJ I agree that, at this point, that the neocon dream of taking out Syria and/or Iran is a joke. The majority of Americans will no longer give Bush the benefit of the doubt regarding any action that will put our servicemen and servicewomen in harms way. Besides, our military is so degraded that we may not have the ability to get into another war. Here is the part that is not a joke. There are almost 1900 Americans who have died in Iraq. Know this. Everyone of those lives, and of those Americans who will die in this war, is on you. Every American who comes out of this war missing limbs or is in some way never whole again. Thats on you. Lets not forget what we've done to the Iraqis. They are people too, just like us. Its all on you. There was a period of time where you could have claimed that you were mislead by our Great Leader, but that day passed a long time ago. If this war goes as badly as it seems to be going, please don't blame the media or the antiwar left or any other convenient scapegoat. Be an adult. Take responsibility. Its all on you.

John, you are quite the optimist. What about FIFTEEN AIRBASES don't you understand? Since Bush doesn't give a flying f*k about democracy, and since the gov't is controlled exclusively by his backers, what do you think WE could do to stop him from attacking Syria as he pleases? The attacks on Tal Afar and Al Qa'im are lead-ups to the attack on Syria. As for "our military is so degraded," that is UNTRUE. • The air forces are in prime shape, and that's the tool that Bush intends to use to attack these other countries -- with nukes if that's what it takes. Their air-conditioned barracks on those fifteen airbases are real sweet, too. Believing that a military leader is disarmed BY POLITICS when he still has the POWER to carry on war is the biggest mistake you can make. You are soothing your troubled mind while your enemy is still plotting against you.
