Sen. Ken Salazar Calls for Resignation of Mike Brown

Colorado Senator Ken Salazar today called for the resignation of FEMA director Mike Brown. In a letter to President Bush, Salazar said:

"Specifically, Mr. Brown represented to the public that he could not have imagined the levees being breached in New Orleans, even though he had been briefed by federal government experts nearly a day and a half before Hurricane Katrina made landfall that those levees could indeed be breached by the hurricane surge. Having received such information, Mr. Brown should have acted more quickly than he did — and should not have suggested to the American public that he was given contrary information," Salazar said in the letter.

Also on the Colorado front, Rep. Diana DeGette -- along with Rep. John Dingell (D-MI) -- introduced legislation to separate FEMA from Homeland Security.

What, and embolden our enemies? Better New Orleans than New York!

"Condi" Rice got promoted for things like that.

The only ones in danger of either being demoted or fired are those who tried to be affective or criticized those sitting still. All the wastrels will surely be promoted.

The paragraph you quote is a slap at the President for saying "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees". And Nancy Pelosi said what many were thinking when Bush announced his investigation. "Well, the buck stops at the president's desk," said House Democratic Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi. "The president said he's going to lead the investigation into what went wrong. He need look only in the mirror for starters."

Beware the law of unintended consequences: Michael Brown's deputy and the deputy's deputy are both political patronage hacks too. That's the problem with Bush administration flunkies; you get rid of one and the next one is even worse. Just imagine, if Bush had gotten his first choice we would have Bernie Kerik running this whole show.

I would ask the Senator why he thinks FEMA should act after the Governor has rejected evacuation help and before she has requested help. I would hope that a US Senator would know that the Federal government can not go into a state until asked. Evidently I am wrong. Shame. When I live in CO I kinda liked his style. Now I can only say I hope he is a one term wonder.

What a funny argument, Jimaka is making: The essence of leadership is not cutting through red tape. It's taking no for an answer. Funny: Isn't that exactly how the Repug Party caricatured Kerry last fall?

I would ask the Senator why he thinks FEMA should act after the Governor has rejected evacuation help and before she has requested help.
And I would ask why PPJ keeps lying! This is right up there with the one you told about the size of your [censored]. One thing I do have to hand to him. He may not be a man (real men don't need to hide behind lies) but he sure has balls! Sorry everyone else. I'm sure you're getting bored of this. But I'm happy to stop... as soon as he stops lying.

Mighty big of you to admit it, PPJ.

But I'm happy to stop... as soon as he stops lying.
    It's gonna be a loooooong month. ;)

Jim, what of a horse-breeding specialist running FEMA? That doesn't bother you? I don't doubt that local and state officials failed their constituents. Appointing a horse ejaculator to head FEMA failed the nation. Political cronyism kills, something must be done to eliminate cronyism for such important positions. Mike Brown must be sent back to the stud farm ASAP.

Hey! Hey PPJ! How many lies did you tell today! Well, you finally got one thing right. Gee, it only took how many tries? You get a cookie! The governor of Louisiana did get a takeover request from the Bush administration on Friday, September 2, and yes, she did reject it! You finally stopped claiming this happened on Friday, August 26! I guess I missed your apology for getting things so wrong. But that wasn't before she requested help. She declared a state of emergency on August 26 and wrote a letter to President Bush (this page is dated August 27) and asked him to declare a state of emergency and start getting the resources in place to help! Maybe you could read better if you didn't have your cranium inserted somewhere where the sun don't shine.
