Soledad O'Brien of CNN reports talking to National Guard medics who were moved by their experiences in NOLA:

We talked to men and women, some of whom have been in the military for decades, some who are new. All expressed how horrific it is. We sat down and talked to a medic who, with two colleagues, treated literally thousands of people today as they filed out of the Superdome.

This medic has been to Baghdad and seen people decapitated. But he said this is so much worse because it is so disorganized and because it is on American soil. His official orders said to prepare for 20 percent of the people he treats to not make it. They didn't lose anyone today. They showed true heroism.

    Of course they're moved. How can they not be!? These are our own people...our own. How many of us, truthfully, have the means or resources to simply lose everything and recoup? I know I don't. Especially if I lost the means of employment. Granted, I do have an occupation in which I could more than likely ALWAYS get work. p.s. - wishful....don't bother; Karl wants pros.

    How come these medics hat America? The undertone of their comments is that Bushco knows not what they are doing... (which is true by the way, sorry wrong wing fascist apologists)... Why do these people hate America, do they not know everytome they say even a syllable against our idiot-in-chief that he is enabling the terrosits victory over us? I mean, if the chimp-in-chief says it is so, it must be true right? Whatta PR seeking buffoon... Mission accomplished. Eat that Fallujah-rest easy knowing that mission was accomplished... You were just a "warning?" What? What????

    FDR, where are you now? What will move me even more, and move all of these victims into a more hopeful future, is a regional public works program on the order of the WPA during the depression. And we better start hearing about it being planned soon, or these tens of thousands of people are simply going to be left to the cruel winds of chance yet again.
