Server Trouble

TalkLeft went down for a few hours apparently while I was out today....the hosting service is having trouble ..thanks for your patience. Here's what their site says:

We are currently seeing issues at both AT&T and TWTelecom in traces from various locations. If your routes travel along those networks, you may experience high latency and/or complete failure to reach your site or other services. We’ve sent a note to the main NOC at P10, asking them for a status, since no doubt they are already aware of the issue, and we’ll post whatever we get back from them.

    The problems are Katrina-related. There were similar issues after 9-11 and during the big blackout. All the telecoms and hosting providers have to adjust around the parts of the network that are destroyed or without power. Unfortunately, that's just life in the Information Age--the information may be "virtual", but the network is not.

    Mike - Was it ATT or Nortel who told us "the network is the solution?" ;-)

    Jeralyn - I intermittently experienced the same troubles attepting connections to 7 or 8 sites at about the same time this morning... it was not just talkleft affected... --- edger 08/30/05 4:57 PM PST

    Server trouble? Law suits against site's un Amerikun blogger comments are just starting to gain speed. The wild freedom and power of the blogsphere 'netroots' are under attack. It seems only a matter of time before the filth and untidyness of the internet is cleansed and put in order. From Juan Cole:

A lot of forces in US society are very upset about the emergence of an Information Democracy on the Web, and I think the courts will increasingly be invoked to close down free discourse. The case discussed by the WSJ is complicated by a charge of revealing trade secrets, but that charge may be easy to trump up.
