The Cabal of 14 to Meet

The 14 Senators that sold us out on Janice Rogers Brown and Priscilla Owen are meeting Thursday. Why? Don't we still have a Senate Judiciary Committee? Who annointed them the arbiters of a Supreme Court nominee?

"Who annointed them the arbiters of a Supreme Court nominee?" Well if it's any consolation, I am sure that Frist and bush are asking the same question.

Whether we like it or not, these 14 senators probably control the confirmation outcome. I am not optimistic that Roberts can be avoided, but I am not certain how bad he might be. His credentials are fine. The court will now be tilting to the right for a generation. That is something that Americans will have to face. Chances are that as court rulings move to establish the American Taliban and our own neo-christian Sharia law, the electorate will wake up and elect a more progressive congress. Or we learn to live under Sharia law. Jim and his ilk won't notice, but it may rankle a bit for most of us. Democracy is fragile.

Well since the Senate is divided the way it is, one has to face the fact that the 14 senators is basically the last line of defense in this mixed up Senate. Does the judicary committee have enough votes to stop a nominee from heading out to the full senate for a vote? My guess is not they don't, so the 14 is it for us liberals.

Who annoited the gang of 14? Why they did themselves. Kind of like Bonaparte did as well. It sucks but John McCain and his ilk have no use for democratic ideals at all. Just look at his Campaign Finance Reform laws that he pushed for and Bush signed into law. CA, Sharia law? Hyperbole is rarely a convincing argument but I do agree that if your theory came true that the people would change things rather quickly but Sharia law? C'mon you're sounding like one of those soapbox deacons that are sure the world is about to end.
