Should McClellan Resign?

The San Francisco Chronicle has this editorial saying White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan should resign. What do you think?

Also on the topic of McClellan, the media and RoveGate, see NYU Journalism Prof Jay Rosen's post on the White House and the press roll-back.

Also on Huff Post, Paul Feig turns RoveGate into a game of Clue and solves it the same way I would (at least today, I tend to go back and forth still): Colonel Dick Cheney, in the Vice President's Office, with a telephone.

And, Buzzflash engages in a little conspiracy-theorizing.

I vote yes. Then he can be replaced by a more competent liar.

I don't see any reason he should resign on account of his own actions. On the other hand, if he had an ounce of self respect, he'd tell the gents who sent him out to lie for them that he's had enough.

Totally agree...he sucks at the most important part of his job; creatively evading the truth (lying). He is not convincing at all. His mother must have imparted some wedge of honesty so deep into his character that even being part of this mob can't erase it. There's only one thing to do...bring back Ari Fleischer! Now more than ever...Bush needs him.

This whole Administration should resign. Fat chance of that happening.

Normally, I would say "yes" to McClellan resigning, but I will give him a pass on this one. Why? Simple. If he resigns, he is a man with a modicum of honor, and this would further draw attention to Rove and the White House CIA Leak. Men and women with a modicum of honor are targets for the wrath of Rove. McClellan would probably NOT be able to find any employment after tending his resignation (The White House would see to that), so an honorable man would be hitting the skids. McClellan, however, is not an honorable man, so staying put is the safest way to keep the future job prospects open.

If my job was to impart information and all I did was say "No comment." or "I've already answered that question." all day long, would I have a job? Why do Republicans think Scott deserves to keep his? Maybe Dean was right about their lack of honest work. A tape recorder could sub for Scottie and nobody would know the difference. What a pathetic government.
