U.S. Threat Level Raised at Transportation Systems

Michael Chertoff is giving a press conference. While there is no specific credible information indicating a threat in the U.S., the threat level is raised to orange, high, at transit systems in the U.S.

He is not asking people to stay away from transit systems.

Ahh, the return of the color coding. Conditionally though it may be, none the less I have missed it so.

I trust my government to keep me safe from those who hate our freedoms.

Ernesto.... I trust my government to keep me safe from those who hate our freedoms. Ernesto...is that really you??? You trust the government? ... to protect you? I'm amazed! You are one of the many persons on here that has done nothing but chastize the government at every turn! Wonders never cease....

Jesus Christ it never fails. You make an obviously sarcastic comment and some d1ckhead takes it seriously... :P

Ernesto.... Yeah...Jesus Christ....I know what you mean. You make a sarcastic comment on a sarcastic comment and some other 'dick head' takes that seriously!

Ah, color coding. The illusion of doing something. And with the vigilance and perceptive skills of your average American, we oughtta be good and safe for at least another ten minutes or so. Or whenever some nutcase decides he wants to kill a bunch of people. Flesh and blood is a tough thing to be. As is being a rational creature in a cold, indifferent, irrational universe. Makes easy answers very comforting. But easy answers are only easy. They ain't no answers.

I love how the level was raised HOURS after the London attacks. Way to stay ahead of the game! My dog could do as good a job as this administration.

Roger..... I love how the level was raised HOURS after the London attacks. If they raise the level, you lefties critisize it as a political move...if they don't (or don't do it as soon as you think they should) you critisize that too... can you say "no win situation"?

This whole "threat level" business is retarded. Ignore them, just as you should ignore 99% of what the govt. tells you.

Wheeee...fun with color coded threat levels... Lime green= bad hair day Magenta= we ran out of beer Purple= dammit, not meat loaf again tonight mom! beige= this movie sucks, I can't believe I paid five bucks to sit through this crap... Oh the fun we can have with ridiculous color coded threat warnings that no one in their right minds pays any attention to or takes in the least bit seriously.

I was surprised to hear that the color code was still around. After the election, you stopped hearing about the alerts, for some strange reason (code yellow sarcasm alert). What I thought interesting about the alerts was this. Lets assume that the government was sincere and they had really discovered terrorist plots. If the government was announcing that they were onto a potential crime before the crime occurred, then weren't they also tipping off the criminals that they were on to them?

I feel *so* much safer when I see that the marijuana-detecting dogs and their machine gun cradling policemen have returned to the subways and commuter trains of our cities.

Disregard all parties that want to make you afraid.
