The hearing on the Downing Street Memo is today at 2:30 pm. C-Span 3 is providing live coverage. You can listen live at Radio Left or Pacifica. The Los Angeles Times has published these links to the British Iraq Memos (pdf):

As for the hearing and related activities,

On Thursday June 16, 2005, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room HC-9 ofthe U.S. Capitol, Rep. John Conyers, Jr., Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, and other Congress Members will hold a hearing on the Downing Street Minutes and related evidence of efforts to cook the books on pre-war intelligence.

The DNC will serve as an overflow room, so people can still go there: The Wasserman Room at 430 S Capitol St. SE. After the hearing, Congressman Conyers will personally deliver his letter to the President demanding answers about the path to war, which has been signed by over 100 members of Congress and well over half a million American citizens. There will also be a rally at 5:00pm in Lafayette Square Park, in front of the White House. If you can make it, please attend!

Update: The BBC credits left-leaning bloggers for raising the profile of the memos and gaining the attention of MSM.

    John Conyers is an american patriot. He knows where the crooks are hiding (in plain sight). Maybe HE should be the Atty. General. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of George Bush.

    You got to ask what is going on here? who is doing who and why? is this about oil or about setting us all up for the next big war with china? what is this memo really saying? and who let it out into the open? and for what reason? and who will use it for what purposes? and what will happen next?

    A little patience, Freddy Boy. Let's see what these "hearings" bring. Remember, Nixon WAS going to be impeached. The system CAN work, IF we watch over it carefully. Which we ain't been doing enough of lately. Maybe this'll get us started on the road back to it. Or ahead to it. Peace, my friend.

    The Downing Street Memos are not making the frontline press in the United States because they are in fact superfluous. Richard Clarke and others exposed these blatant distortions and misrepresentations of quality intelligence by the Bush administration years ago. Old news. Apparently the American people and much of the world community feel that the war on terrorism gives us license to reinitiate colonialism and nationbuilding. Too bad we don't have more competent people at the reins of this agenda, since its failure could lead to cataclysmic consequences. We're going to get to see if America's third-rate Republican minds can handle these first-rate problems they've created. It seems likely that the next administration is going to have to clean up the problems produced by this one. Let's just hope it isn't a number of administrations trying to clean up these problems.

As for 'brief,' pig, there are four documents in view, including the Law Lord's statement that the invasion would be illegal. 'Brief' in this sense is HILARIOUS. "Mr. President, your underwear is sticking out of your zipper" is a 'brief' statement. The US and UK Executives CONSPIRED TO LIE THEIR COUNTRIES INTO WAR is not brief. It is official proof of the conspiracy. It is a smoking gun, and some officials may actually 'smoke' guns as this gathers steam. Protests on the media blackout on DSM in LA today (Thurs 16) at 5 PM, Sunset and Normandie, in front of KTTV (Channel 5). CSPAN is also a potential protest target in the same area. Che, forget AG -- if Kerry and Gore don't want to run, I'd happily vote for Conyers in 2008. It's a black man doing the Lincoln job in this second civil war, the rightwing having seceded from the Constitution (AGAIN).

    Pig, nice try at the pretense that Bush isn't exactly what he appears to be -- a TRAITOR. He PROMISED the evidence, and then blew that promise out his arse like the rest of his lies. Rumsfeld ASSURED the country that they knew where the weapons were. Cheney and Rice both THREATENED the country with nuclear weapons that did not exist. Aristocrats go to great lengths to replace their anuses with gold. Some, like Cheney, are proud to have replaced their rectums and sigmoid colons as well. Some have even replaced their descending colons, though that is quite rare. The downside of these gold organs is that they have a tendency to speak. And the sound of a Golden Assh*le is something that people cannot stand. Especially when it reverberates with further golden colon parts in the extreme cases. The people found out 200+ years ago that a sure way to stop those golden anuses from talking was to cut off the other end. This is why it is not smart for golden-boweled Dick Cheney to continue his smarmy, disgusting tribute to himself on national airwaves. He shouldn't let his golden arse do the talking, but he can't help himself, which is why it is considered a royalist fool's mistake to replace one's nether parts with gold.

    To be more accurate, it wasn't 'memo's, it was the minutes of meetings between the head of MI6 and the top levels of the brit gov't. Regardless of spin, the minutes prove that bush had determined to go to war when he was still lying about the decision hadn't been made. It also shows that bushco's moving the goal posts to say it was for 'regime change' was illegal. pw, I really can't understand why a purported libertarian would back these criminals. They've increased the size of government, intruded more into citizens privacy than any other admin and constantly get caught in major lies. What's up w/ that?

I simply thought it was a bit ridiculous to have all these ‘summaries’ floating around for a couple dozen pages of transparent text. For christ sake, I ask folks to read a few short pages and form their own reasoned opinions and suddenly I’m supporting thugs? Read my posts; skip PinLA’s delusional interpretation. Che- I see you’ve finally dropped all pretense of argument; and what is left is trivial and petty. Bully for you.

    Pigwiggle, Help me make my point. What is the libertarian position on federal and state social services like welfare and ADDC? What about Medicare and title 19 programs? Bankruptcy legislation?
