Guantanamo Costs $90 Million a Year To Run

Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld says we paid $100 million to construct Gunatanamo and we will pay (indefinitely, apparently, since the war on terror will go on in perpetuity) $90 -$95 million a year to run it.

Senator Bill Frist:

``Let's not shut and run because of an image problem.''

Just an image problem? Jeanne D'Arc of Body and Soul has more on Guantanamo, and check out this video over at Crooks and Liars, of Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) refuting torture claims at Guantánamo Bay while displaying various foods, and saying "They've never eaten better."

No, Mr. Frist, let's shut and run because Gitmo represents everything we -- as supposedly civilized, evolved, free people -- are supposed to detest.

Ninety million dollars cost. Human cost incalculable. Cost to the spirit infinite.

is it a shock to learn that prisons are expensive? Would you prefer they be housed in your hometown? My human spirit feels better knowing folks who mean us harm are detained. I'll not waste my tears on killers or enemy fighters-you can do the crying my barren soul denies me.

Detainee: "Yes, I'd like to be released, but can it wait until tomorrow? Tonight is lamb kebobs!"

They've never eaten better--why some of those guys had never had a pork chop in their lives!

Why not lock up and chain every person living in poverty on earth? At least they will eat better, right? The arrogance of this regime astounds.

I don't think comment was directed to poverty, just that we aren't torturing people who want to kill us too badly given the menu.

The demeaning undertone of the comment is easy to grasp, if you're listening. There you go again with "they want to kill us" Have you met these men, do you know their names? How can you say beyond a doubt that "they" want to kill "us".

one would not want to demean such an inspiring group. again, explain why, of the millions of people in Afghanistan, we are detaining these 500 goatherds. when a large percentage released has returned to combat, I'll take my chances with the government's judgment, not yours, that would be suicidal.

And after the hearings, they go right back into a cage, no matter the findings. That is not a hearing, but a charade. Our fundamental difference is I don't feel threatened by these men. The greatest threat to my freedom is the US govt., not some Muslim from halfway around the world. The greatest threat to my life is driving to work during rush hour, not a terror attack. I am not comfortable with secret detentions of unknown persons for a false sense of security. I'd rather live and die believing in the ideals of freedom and human rights. BTW...If these men weren't plucked out of Iraq or Afghanistan, they wouldn't even be in our hemisphere.

And for the last time, the "war on terror" is not a war at all. Stop calling it a war, there is no war. There is an occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, but no war.

narius...the alternative is a fair hearing for all. If its proven they conspired in terror attacks, sentence them to life in prison. If it cannot be proven, they must be released to their home country free men. It's the American way.

Bush needs enemies A LOT more than we do. Guantanamo is a hub of USPNAC's successful Hate America Now! program, which has been firing the wills of poorly-educated Islamists all over the world. Coming soon: • The lauded Guantanamo Nudie calendar for 2006, with annotations by GW Bush, well-known sadomasochist bisexual. Guards and prisoners, in intimate embraces. • New 'General Jihad' and 'Suicider' action figures, for child-torturers in training. Handy pull-string spouts 'Kill Americans' (Allahu Akbar). • Abu, the Abu Ghraib sex doll, for the older child who needs to learn the facts of life about Republicans and their sexual needs. • Mary Carey's new video, with bonus strip-down and nudie dance by Dick Cheney. The famed huge gazongas pornstar, a hit at last night's We're Hypocrites, You Didn't Know? Lincoln Bedroom post-dinner sex party, also sings her new song, "I Was Born to F*k White Republicans, Ten at a Time," and "Stay Away From My Honeypot, Arab," both of which are receiving around-the-clock play on ClearChannel. • Bill O'Reilly's new pamphlet, "How to Recognize if Your Lover is Becoming an Islamofascist," with a sexy new introduction by OJ Simpson, and rare bestiality nude shot of Prince Charles. All products can be bought at Halliburton Safe-mosques, Walmarts, and Burger Kings near you.

ed.... explain why, of the millions of people in Afghanistan, we are detaining these 500 goatherds. when a large percentage released has returned to combat, C'mon Ed...any self respecting lefy on here will tell you... "Becasue Bush is a war criminal and hates all 'dark' people"...he just wants to make more oil money and cause the rest of the world grief These guys aren't bad...they're just victims of circumstances... they are all really nice people that love America and it's people.... but that mean ol GW is making sure that they all hate us (because they loved us under Clinton's watch) and that way he can keep the war going for all enerity...while making millions in the process" .... Plus...as has been said here... There is no war on terror...it's all just a big joke. That 9/11 thing was just a one time deal to get their point across... we shouldn't be concerned anymore... they'll leave us alone now. We are just overreacting... and/or we deserve what we get because we are an evil & nasty country. Get it now? ..... LOL

That's the great thing about having a king, BB. "Mussolini is always right." You LOL, but a great number of our best soldiers are bloody pulps, and their kids are orphans. HOW funny your lies are not.
