Senator Allard Responds to Downing Street Memo Concerns

Last weekend, I e-mailed my Senators about concerns over the Downing Street Memo, using a form from After Downing Street.org. I haven't heard back from Sen. Ken Salazar, but here is the response I received from Senator Wayne Allard:

Dear Jeralyn:

Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about our country's leadership. I appreciate you taking the time to write.

I do believe that President Bush has truthfully stated the reasons to go to war in Iraq. In doing so we have maintained a coalition with many other countries throughout the world, including Britain. I do feel that the President has done a good job at trying to rebuild Iraq. It will not be an easy or quickly resolved task, but we will do our best to help Iraq to become a stable and productive country.

Thank you for writing to share your concerns. I look forward to hearing from you again. If you would like more information on issues important to Colorado and the nation, please log on to my website.

His response is basically a form letter and a website plug. How pathetic. [offensive language deleted]

Yeah, thanks for writing and that wasn't a plastic turkey.

    Shorter Allard: Memo? What memo?

A "good job at trying". Sounds like Senator Allard sets the bar pretty damn low.

As someone all too familiar with Senator-speak...allow me to provide a translation: This is an automated response, or a "canned letter" if you will. Senator Allard does not have time to read his mail unless it bears a postmark from someone who has sent him a check for at least ten thousand dollars during the most recent election cycle. Of course, I don't really believe this since it's pretty obvious that none of the reasons ever actually panned out. I'm only saying this because if I admit the President was lying through his teeth, that would make him guilty of a crime many times bigger than 9/11. Ummm...it would also make me look like an accomplice to it. And Brunei. And many islands in Micronesia whose debt we forgave. And a few sand covered oil rich oligarchies that torture even more people than we do. Oh, and Poland...don't forget them. This is truly an international broad-based effort. Some of these coalition countries have even gone as far as supplying cannon fod...errr I mean troops to the effort. Some have provided up to a dozen troops or more. Accent on the word trying. To the tune of 200 billion dollars of your tax bucks. So far there's been a bit more unbuilding than rebuilding...but there are lots and lots of no-bid contracts in the pipeline for some of our corporate sponsors. We will not let the terrorists win! We had great dreams of Citibank and Burger King and privatized industries, making huge windfall profits. All pretty much down the toilet now... But we still got the military and security contractors making out like friggen bandits and that should keep us neck deep in campaign dough until at least the 2012 election cycle. And if you want me to pay more attention to you than a speck of fly crap under my shoe next time you write, then you better make a hefty donation while you are there. God Bless America!
