Los Alamos Whistleblower Assaulted

Update: Never mind, the assault had no connection to his whistle-blowing activities.

This is scary.

Los Alamos whistleblower "Tommy Hook is still hospitalized today after being brutally assaulted over the weekend," the Project on Government Oversight is saying. "A group of three to four assailants threatened Hook to keep silent, in apparent reference to his upcoming Congressional testimony on fraud at Los Alamos."

Mr. Hook was slated to testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee this month.....Mr. Hook had planned at the end of last week to meet an individual who claimed to have corroborating information about fraud at Los Alamos. That individual never attended the meeting. Late Saturday evening, someone who might have been posing as that individual called Mr. Hook and asked to meet with him at a bar in Santa Fe. He went to the bar and waited but that person never showed up. When Mr. Hook got into his car to leave, attackers pulled him out of the car and brutally assaulted him. The assailants threatened Mr. Hook to keep silent. A bouncer at the bar intervened and broke up the attack. Mr. Hook was hospitalized in an Emergency Room with severe trauma to his face and head, including a fractured jaw, and a herniated disk. He is heavily medicated today and unable to speak to the media.

And Chuck Colson says Felt should've gone through normal channels. How cute.

Well, I had a few minutes to spare and I did find this in the St. Petersburg Times:
Stratasec: Marvin was recruited to join the board of this secretive Virginia security company that serves international corporations and governments. The company is awash in ex-government security and military personnel. Among them: Barry McDaniel, who served during the Reagan years as deputy director of readiness for the U.S. Army Materiel Command; and retired U.S. Air Force General James A. Abrahamson, who served as director of President Reagan's "Star Wars" Strategic Defense Initiative. The company touts such major customers as Dulles airport near Washington, as well as Los Alamos National Laboratories (where former scientist Wen Ho Lee pleaded guilty to improperly downloading nuclear weapons design secrets). KuwAm Corp.: The investment company, with roots in Kuwait (the country "liberated" by President Bush's Gulf War), is a large backer of Stratasec. Stratasec chief executive Wirt Walker also is a managing director of KuwAm. And KuwAm chairman Mishal Yousef Saud Al Sabah also sits on Stratasec's board.
I still can't say anything about how up to date that information is, but... does it freak anyone else out that a company from the mideast (or anywhere else outside the US) has (or had) a large stake in the company providing security for some of our most sensitive nuclear laboratories? I still can't believe that they contract out this job at all.

Seems like I recall a brother of W was on the board of directors of the company that was contracted to provide security to Los Alamos. It has been a while since I looked into it and things may have changed since then. Maybe I'll be able to dig out the details later. For now, I'll just say that I was shocked when I first learned that security for the nation's nuclear labs had been given up to private contractors, but I was even more shocked to learn that the company was being at least partially financed by foreign interests. You'd think that kind of thing would drive conservatives batty about the national security risks, but I guess having the right people involved makes all the difference in the world... As I said, if I have time, I'll try to dig out the details later. Hints: I believe it was Marvin, the brother few have heard of...

Also the presence of W's brother on that board has, imho, nothing to do with daily operations of that company or their competence. Boards of this type are simply perks for connected people, little else. True, but it also shows that the security of the labs is secondary to providing profits for friends and families of the well-connected. Little surprise that there is a thuggish element associated with the selling of national security for fun and profit. While I'm not trying to blame W or his brother, I'm simply trying to point out that we are talking about a place that is guarded by muscle for hire rather than by our national security apparatus. Little surprise, then, that we see this kind of thing.

Ironically, this can only enhance Mr. Hook's credibility.

I hope that, when you draw ominous connections, they're a bit sturdier than those heard from proponents of the "Arkancide" theories. So far, no luck.

Debunked; It turns out he hit a pedestrian while he was pulling out of the parking lot and the guy and his friends beat him up for it. The police have investigated the perps and found them to be simple thugs. Now that that is out of the way; continue the speculation and spin.
