Runaway Bride Pleads, Sentenced to Probation

TalkLeft would be remiss if it did not interrupt coverage of Deep Throat to inform everyone that the Runaway Bride appeared in court this morning and pleaded no contest to the felony charge of making a false statement to a law enforcement officer. She was sentenced to probation. She agreed to repay $13,000 of the search costs to the city of Duluth. The city wrote off about $30,000 in additional search-related expenses. The misdemeanor charge of false reporting of a crime was dismmissed.

Update: The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports:

As part of the plea agreement, she will have her criminal record expunged after she completes probation.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I never understood that whole lying to the cops charge, whether fed or state. It always seemed to me that if you aren't under oath, you should be able to say anything you want. False reporting, yes that should be a crime (fire in the crowded theatre) but just lying to a cop? Hell, that's just self preservation;-) Cops are trained to lie to citizens, citizens shouldn't have fewer rights than the gov't.

Isn't it outrageous The supreme court ruled a Cop can lie all he wants to a suspect but it's a crime to lie back to the cop. Go figure

"...lying to a cop? Hell, that's just self preservation..." Sailor, you're after Blaghdaddy's own heart... But you know what, Blagh feels it was a just and fair, and equitable outcome... He just didn't agree with those whose bleeding hearts had them crying, "Why even charge her?" Because that's what the police are there for, to charge people who break the laws, not to follow Blaghdaddy around town 'cause he drives a Maxima...(and a f*#king used one at that...) So, after she was charged, then was the time to look at what happens to her. Not to charge her at all is more "some people are more equal than others..." Tell y'all what- how about Blagh strolls down to the variety store during a manic haze and holds up the clerk for some Twinkies? Should he get to cry in front of some mic's that "I'm under stress," and have the cops say "OH! Well, in that case..."??? Let the cops charge, and let the justice system decide the justice... Worked here, didn't it?

Blag, if it hadn't been for the media circus it probably would have been handled a bit more discreetly. Personally, I think there's an argument to be made that the fines should come out of their pockets from huge profits they made on this non-story. Not a good argument, but it could be a fun one;-) Notice they dropped the misdemeanor, false reporting, for a felony, lying to a cop. There's something bassackwards about the relative seriousness of those charges.

Oh well, it's over now...perhaps now we can all concentrate on Who Killed Emmitt? Talk about no Justice...Oy Vey... Sailor, but for the commotion, she would have had no reason to break the law...kind of like saying, "If she'd let me kiss her, I wouldn't have had to rape her..." Pressure is no excuse for breaking the law...we're ALL under pressure...

Sailor: In honor of your lying to a cop hilarity, Blagh's just written a "Racial Profiling" blog that he thinks you might like...let him know what you think...

I think the agreement called for the felony to be kicked down or reopened and dismissed if she completes probation successfully, which would explain the relatively quick decision to plead to a (ridiculous) felony in exchange for the misdemeanor dismissal.

Blag, "Racial" was pretty good, but it sure was obvious you weren't in LA;-)

Clarification: I do not think she should go to jail/prison. But my earlier comment is a fact.

Imminent Media Blitz Alert: Pretty, white teen missing: More to follow, much more, Blaghdaddy is sure...
