Defense Dept. Planned to Blame the FBI

From the newest crop of documents the Defense Department has turned over to the ACLU and made available on their website is this e-mail, spotted by this astute Democatic Underground reader: [hat tip Crooks and Liars.]

DETAINEES-2797B

E-mail (from CTD employee to Frankie Battle) noting that sender is forwarding this EC up the chain of command, concerning alleged impersonation of FBI Agents at GTMO

12/05/03

Same document as Detainee-2797 with the following unredacted: "Of concern, DOD interrogators impersonating Supervisory Special Agents of the FBI told a detainee that the FBI…" and "These tactics have produced no intelligence of a threat neutralization nature to date and CITF believes that techniques have destroyed any chance of prosecuting this detainee." and "If this detainee is ever released or his story made public in any way, DOD interrogators will not be held accountable because these torture techniques were done (by) the "FBI" interrogators. The FBI will (be) left holding the bag before the public." (emphasis supplied)

"Hey come on", no one is Accountable for anything here, after all its the USA. But did anyone here/hear about the big story with the okc bombing and the known informants and what happened in the grand juror? so why not over this one? can we say cover-up's and government would not like the facts to be known. but we can alway cry about the koran.

OK...now the strategy of impersonators begins to make sense. Hat tip to the ACLU for being one of the few orgnaizations interested in being actual patriotic Americans these days. And there's yet another story Newsweak and the rest of the MSM would never have uncovered. Scumbag traitors.

"Torture techniques"? They were TORTURING people. Somebody run and tell Limbaugh. And they wanted to blame what I'm sure they (DOD Rumsfeld) consider a 'civilian' agency. AND, they realize that releasing detainees, or allowing them council or contact with others, will OUT their torturing. So they admit to having MOTIVE to see those people never released (ie, dead). Motive, opportunity (nay, impunity), criminal action including murder, and a coverup, blamed on the Justice Dept. Wriggling sharks in a net that is coming to the surface.

wg, the CIA now impersonates our military, with its own soldiers and armament! During the invasion, the CIA opened fire on the Russian ambassador's convoy, killing his driver. They then fruitlessly searched the cars for contraband. Both actions, IINM, are acts of war under current international law. The Russians still have 10,000 nukes, so it's not a vague threat to our lives, that Bush's CIA is now committing acts of war without any involvement or consent of the people or their Congress. If that doesn't scare the part of you that used to get scared when you heard Ollie North brag about his crimes, then you are officially a Republican.

Isn't it against the law for someone to impersonate an FBI agent?

Thanks Che. I would like to get an opinion from someone in the legal community on Che's cite (US Code Title 18, Part I, Chapter 43, Section 912). What we may have here isn't just unethical behavior but also criminal behavior.
