Mother's Day: Open Thread

I'm taking the day off from blogging to make lunch for my mother and my sister. The only people missing are the TL kid, who's in New York, and my father, who passed away a few years ago, but they will be with us in spirit. Happy Mother's Day to all of our readers, and here's an open thread for those of you who are online.

Don't be offended by this. An old WWII veteran always says it like this: "Happy Mother's Day, you mothers."

Blaghdaddy sends a "Happy Mother's Day!" to all mothers who deserve to be called that.

today is mothers day and i am alone. not because i don't have a family. i am alone because my sons and husband are away serving their country. tonight my husband will be home, so all is not lost. :-) i do not feel sad, or abandoned. i feel blessed. i raised two morally upright, outstanding young men. they could have chosen careers that would have made them more money. they could have chosen easier and safer lives. instead, they are giving their youth to the service of their country. on this day, i say a prayer for their safety and i thank God that such young men and women are willing to stand up and serve. Happy Mothers Day!

God Bless you, rider237, and Happy Mother's Day... If every American was willing to offer the sacrifice for country that you and your family has, the world would be a much better. A brief thought for rider's and other mothers' hopes on this day is warranted...

Happy Mother's Day, rider237. Unfortunately, your loved ones are doing what they are doing all in vain. This war in Iraq is not for the survival of this country, but the beginning of the end. In May of 1932, the 'Bonus Marchers' arrived in Washington, DC to demand their bonuses from serving in WWI and the Spanish-American wars. They were numbered about 20,000 and were camped along the Mall and in Anacostia. The effects of the October 29, 1929 stock market crash were finally beginning to take effect. The original Hooverville was 'built' in Anacostia on land owned by the Postmaster General. The politicians in Washington were generally sympathetic to their cause, as was President Hoover. General MacArthur, Patton and Eisenhower attacked the Bonus Marchers a few weeks later and the marchers were burned out of their makeshift shelters. Hoover never really recovered from the incident. MacArthur was disgraced and loathed from that point on. Don't be a dupe and a shill for the powers that be. They're only there for their own selfish interests. The American people are merely 'chattel', a renewable resource, for their profit. Wake up. What will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul? Matthew 16:26

Here's a couple more: 1. "Do unto others..." 2. "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who tresspass against us..." (Sound of Dubya choking on a pretzel) 3. "Ask not what your country can do for you (like let you use it as a Halliburton daycare playground), but what you can do for your country..."(like, uh, showing up for the Guard duty that got your cowardly ass out of Vietnam) All appropriate quotes, no?

thanks (i think) :-) thought you all might get a kick out of this. it falls under the heading of "the more things change......" history keeps me from the worry of how the press and the left think things are going. the press and the left are usually wrong :-) [link deleted, not in html format. See cooment instructions.]

From one mother to another - I hope this Mother's Day is peaceful for you and your sons.

rider237 (et al) Happy Mother's Day. My 24 year old daughter became a sailor on Friday at the end of boot camp - so I join you as "a dupe and a shill for the powers that be". While I have just learned (where was I) that "they're only there for their own selfish interests"; and that I am their "'chattel'" [I think cannon fodder is a much better piece of rhetoric here]and "a renewable resource, for their profit." - I still must say may God bless and protect our children. No wonder people didn't listen to me when I spouted this tripe during Vietnam.

Whoa, whoa, wait a minute...no one is calling you military mothers "dupes" and "shills-" and if someone is, they shouldn't be. Whatever our differences, you and your families have put your money where your mouths are, and Blaghdaddy applauds you and hopes all your kids come back safe...who would hope different? To decry military actions by one's government does not mean one is decrying the heroic men and women whose job it is to carry out the orders, be they just or unjust. The soldiers are not politicians, and they should never be judged on the merits of the conflict. They are risking all to fulfill they oath they took for their nation. If they are misled about the reasons, they are justified in either defending their commander-in-chief if they still have faith in him, or if they are angered and speak out. Blaghdaddy's position is that you don't blame soldiers for where their commanders send them and what they must do to return home alive. Blaghdaddy reserves the right to condemn those calling the shots while still applauding the military. So one more time, Happy Mother's Day, especially to those whose children are today in harm's way? Anyone object to that?

Rider237 She finished basic as Recruit Chief Petty Officer over her training group of 70. She is going to A/C school for Advanced Electronics Enginnering. She wants to specialize in Fire Control. She's not hot on the hat either. And Blahdaddy, we agree for once (might be 2nd time - not sure)

Happy Mothers day to all the mom's who have lost their children (over two thousand at last count)(military & non-military) in Iraq. Since we took it upon ourselves to liberate, around 25,000 innocents are not spending this mothers day with the ones they love. We're on a track to kill more than Saddam ever did. All of this from a bunch of homicidal neo-cons claiming to be God fearin' Christians. My family has fought and died in every war since the American Revolution and I'm thankful that none of them are involved in this mess !! This is my first post on any site, so, lets hear it? Happy mother's day to all the mothers out there. Very sad that an apolitical thread was turned into a political slam fest. Is it so hard to agree taht we wish all mothers a happy mothrs day, and leave the animosity to another thread?
