Cheering Against Absurd Laws

The morality police are on the job in Texas, represented by a state legislator who wants to protect Texans from salacious high school cheerleaders.

His bill would order state education officials to investigate any school-sponsored performance that is "overtly sexually suggestive."

What constitutes "suggestive" cheering no doubt depends on the imagination of the observer. Perhaps Texas legislators who are nagged by impure thoughts at the sight of a pom-pom squad would be better served by averting their eyes at halftime.

This commentator suggests that Texas should regulate cheerleaders in the manner it regulates steriod use among high school athletes: leaving it up to each school to decide what (if anything) to do.

Weatherford lawmaker Phil King tried to file a bill demanding steroid testing for playoff athletes. School officials lobbied against it.

Nice to see that the Texas legislature has priorities.

    Republican/Democrat makes no never mind to me, its a silly law, and whoever sponsored it should take up knitting instead of lawmaking. (Since they seem to have *way* too much time on their hands)

    Why tackle real issues when you can legislate morality? Face it old men, the next generation doesn't have the same hang-ups as you. We like our cheerleaders to shake some arse. Don't like it, don't watch.

    Well it's a slippery slope, the cheerleaders are too sexually suggestive and the next thing you know the science teachers are pushing Darwin's theory of evolution. Something has to be done. Leave it to the Texas legislature to do the wrong thing.

    Here's a theory...This bonehead legislator probably hasn't gotten laid in years, and he's tired of cheerleaders getting him all randy. That's it, he's a dirty old man...a dirty, filthy old man.

    kdog- Actually, I think he saw a copy of "Debbie Does Dallas", and believed it when he was told it was a cheerleader instructional video. ;) This guy proves my belief their are plenty of idiots at either political extreme. It's just often more fun to abuse the ones on the right. Their so cute when they stammer and spluttter in indignation. Then there's targets like this morality-legislating fool.

    There are so many bonehead laws on the books now it will take years to clean them off. We, the voting public, need to send messages to these idiots & tell them to cease this stupidity.... or face being voted out
