Faith-Based Private Prison Coming to Texas

First Florida, now Texas. The faith-based prison concept is catching on. Is it only for Christians? I'm not buying this distinction by the corporation that will run the prison, Dallas-based Corrections Concepts, Inc.

Corrections Concept's mission statement says it will use Christian principles to help inmates prepare for the outside world and makes no mention of evangelization or Christianity.

I think the language is a ploy to ensure the plan passes First Amendment consitutional muster. It still sounds like a Christian prison to me.

    Faith Based Prison Rape more like it. But Bush and family do have a-lot of money in the prison system. by the way corrections concepts, Inc, also has a-lot to do with prisons all over the world and in iraq, got what i mean? Yes I can hear it now, beating's for God, rape for god, killings for god to get the mind "right" the old way. so much fun and so little time to do you all, the Faith based way!

    Fred: No I don't "got what you mean". You got a link proving your supposition? I say close down all faith based prisons and pack em all into regular prisons. Damn quakers for starting the prison scheme anyway.

    to, coyote and wishful just do the research, start with "stop prison rape" and have fun, reading how corrupt your system really is. don't go along with the myth, and read the FBI Files. and read what is happening inside our prison system and look at what happened inside saddam system.

    They gonna use Christian concepts for their prisons, huh? Like an inmate assaults a guard and he turns the other cheek? Should be interesting.

    Sorry Fred: I show a link when trying to make a point. You are taking the lazy way out. Give me a link showing the company Corrections Concepts Inc, Iraq and Bush.

    There's this concept in advertising called the unique selling point. The idea is that, given a choice, you don't buy something just because it's there--you buy it bcause it's got some unique guality that you want. Like you buy a toothpaste because you're convinced it'll prevent cavities more than the other toothpastes. Or it'll make your teeth whiter than the other toothpastes. Or protect you from cold reactions better. Anyway, something specific. So what's this outfit's USP? Cleaner prisons? More secure? Better facilities? No . . . it's that they pray to Jesus real hard. The disgusting part is that this flummery actually passes for a USP with some people. Which is why it's being presented this way. The Bible-bangers among the county officials will give 'em the contract because of their religiosity (they hope); thereafter, they'd have to offer very little beyond a bare-bones facility. Really, what treatment of prisoners could you not justify as a "Christian penal facility"?
    Inmates would work in the prison and earn money, some of which would go for victim restitution and the cost of their housing.
    (Emphasis added) Translation: they get to rent out slave labor too. For most people, accepting Christ means trying to have a larger spiritual life. For the ones who make a big song-and-dance about it in public--especially when it's tied to getting serious money--it means gulling the pious.

    Doing what? Will their work be in competition with legitimate businesses?

    Unfortunately, they have realized that slavery is legal, as long as the slaves are prisoners. Think there is any correlation of this realization and the explosion in the prison population?

    It still sounds like a Christian prison to me. Any room full of christians one is trapped in is a prison. Or pure hell.

    Are they trying to imprison Christians again? I thought we were past all that. I suspect they will want to crucify wrong-doers. Will they call death row Gethsemane? This is classic SNAFU. Cheers, Alan Tomlinson

    The main thing here is to hopefully have a better pereson when they are released from prison . Wouldn't you rather have a X-con as neighboro with Christian values or a mad at the world gang banger. It's a no brainer.
