New Jeff Gannon Interview

The New York Times Sunday Magazine has an interview with Jeff Gannon. This exchange told me all I needed to know, I didn't bother with the rest.

Scott McClellan, the press secretary to President Bush, called on you and allowed you to ask questions on a nearly daily basis. What, exactly, is your relationship with him?

I was just another guy in the press room. Did I try to curry favor with him? Sure. When he got married, I left a wedding card for him in the press office. People are saying this proves there is some link. But as Einstein said, "Sometimes a wedding card is just a wedding card.''

You mean like "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar''? That wasn't Einstein. That was Freud.

Oh, Freud. O.K. I got my old Jewish men confused.

Ok, I looked at one more snippet. Gannon looks to the future and says:

I'd like to get back into journalism. I'm hoping someone will offer me a job as a commentator or one of those political analysts that you see on the news shows all the time.

Don't hold your breath, Jeff. Or as Paul Simon would say (sing):

Just slip out the back, jack
Make a new plan, stan
...Hop on the bus, gus
...Just drop off the key, lee

And don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Heh. I read the interview this morning, and I actually started pitying the guy - that maybe he's just so completely deluded himself that he can no longer tell fantasy from reality. My favorite is the very last question, where he makes a somewhat vague argument that the pictures themselves were somehow manipulated. I mean, if that were true, wouldn't he have vigorously argued that in the first place?

Well..., Oliver North came back. Newt Gingrich came back. G. Gordon Liddy came back. Adm. Poindexter came back. Negroponte came back. Ahmed Chalabi came back. Nope. They have no shame.

Gannon was on "Tucker Carlson Unfiltered" from PBS (another reason my donations are in question this year). I didn't watch, but my mother did. If you're interested in some self-serving stuff, the transcript is here.

Ollie North betrayed his country several times, but so far as I know, he wasn't a gay outcall. That's not a real big resume point for the guy, but I'm pretty sure that O'Reilly needs someone warm to sit on while he lies for money.

et al .... "You mean like "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar''? That wasn't Einstein. That was Freud." I thought that was Clinton talking to Monica.. PIL - Sure you hate North. He loves the USA.

"PIL - Sure you hate North. He loves the USA." Ahh....once more the illiterate, dishonest, cynical formulation of W and his ass lickers: "If you (disagree with me, or someone I like, or think something I don't believe, etc......) .......then you hate America. or it's converse: If you disagree with someone whose ass I kiss......it's because they "love America". PPJ and other W lovers translated: "We so blindly kiss W's ass that no reality or other opinion will influence us"

Dearest No Name - If you love America, it is for what you want it to be. And when your vision isn't accepted by the country, you attack everyone who disagrees with your vision. I love it for what it is. The best of all possible worlds, warts and all. BTW - I again note that your vulgar attacks define your intelligfence, knowledge and character.

TalkLeft, What is it you are trying to say when you say that this snippet was all you needed to read? That Jeff Gannon doesn't know his Freud quotes from his Einstein quotes? That he committed a grave journalistic sin by congratulating someone on their marriage? What?

That he committed a grave journalistic sin by congratulating someone on their marriage? What? That Jeff Gannon is so prejudiced and stupid that all he knows of Freud and Einstein that they are "two Jewish men." That he denies a relationship with Bush Press Secy Scott McClellan, yet received a wedding card from him. Did everyone in the press room get a card? Or just the sycophants?

Freud, Einstein, what's the difference. Hussein, Bin Laden, what's the difference. Al Qaeda, Iraq, what's the difference. Journalists, commentators, what's the difference. Truth, lies, war, peace, Democracy, fascism, spin, propaganda, what's the difference. Civilians, insurgents, what's the difference.

It's a litmus test kind of thing. If you don't know what is wrong with this guy, then I can't help you figure it out. The quotes tell me much that confirms my earlier impression. Let's see, what is wrong with manipulating the press? How could that be a bad thing?

Posted by: PPJ (aka Jim) on March 20, 2005 07:18 AM et al .... "You mean like "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar''? That wasn't Einstein. That was Freud." I thought that was Clinton talking to Monica.. PIL - Sure you hate North. He loves the USA. Leave it to the local Bush Fellator At Work to throw in a gratuitous Clenis remark. Maybe you can throw in some Andrew Jackson Democratic snipes in, too, PPJ - or have you tired of critiquing Democrats for his mistakes yet? Ollie North so loved America that he sent other's sons and daughters to die for it. What a proud example of an exemplary American! Never mind about that whole Black Ops thing. Or that selling arms illegally so you can fund a terrorist organization thing either. Free enterprise like that is what makes America great, right PPJ? Let's go make some more money on other people's deaths, shall we? Publican logic (cough) at its finest. Just when you think that they can't sink any lower...

Jim, Ollie North was a great combat commander who later committed serious crimes. To call him a criminal is not to denigrate his Vietnam era service, which was stellar. The fact that I would follow someone into battle does not mean that I trust their political judgement

North was a hero. Never mind that at the taxpayers expense he shredded the constitution, lied through his teeth repeatedly to his employers - us,sold weapons to a country that,as jim has told us ad nauseum, was in danger of overrunning the middle east, further alienated the trust and increased the cynicism of the public towards its government. Some hero. But, thanks again Jim for reminding us that YOU know who loves thier country and who dosnt around here.

To point, this statement by Gukert is as anti-semitic as any in print recently. Who actually spends time thinking about Einstein as Jewish? Freud, OK, he spent so much time in his mom's sock drawer that comedians made jokes about it for decades. But Einstein? I cannot recall seeing a single discussion of his religion outside of articles discussing his opposition to nukes, and the famous quote about God not playing dice with the universe. So why does this jump up in Gukert's head? Could it be his billionaire Texan 'friends' are anti-semites, and he's one too? After all, JKJ. Somebody stem-cell Freud in a hurry -- his best work is ahead of him, studying the Bush perverts.
