Tuesday Night Open Thread: War and Regime Change by Remote Control

It's hard to believe only four weeks ago the U.S., at the whim of Donald Trump, invaded Venezuela to snatch its leader Nicolas Maduro. The New York Times (free link) reports he thinks his strategy was a big success and intends to duplicate it in Iran:

Mr. Trump’s decision to snatch Mr. Maduro from his bed, but keep the rest of the Venezuelan leadership in place, is an experiment in remote-control occupation. After the Delta team landed by helicopter that early January night, killed Mr. Maduro’s Cuban and Venezuelan guards, and seized him seconds before he could lock himself in that safe room, Mr. Trump blessed the installation of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez as acting president. She will stay there, he has said, as long as she follows Washington’s instructions.

...In a brief conversation with The New York Times on Sunday, on the second day of the American and Israeli attack on Iran, he cited the Venezuela experience as a model for what he was trying to accomplish in Iran. “What we did in Venezuela, I think, is the perfect, the perfect scenario,” Mr. Trump insisted. “Everybody’s kept their job except for two people.”

This is an open thread, all topics welcome.

    Jasmine congratulated (5.00 / 3) (#2)

James on his primary victory and urged Democrats to rally around our nominee and win.  She  said Texas is primed to turn blue and we must remain united.

Representative Crocket  is a class act. She is young and  has a future in the Democratic Party; I think she would make a great Attorney General  when a Democrat wins the presidency in 2028.

I still love Jasmin.  There was a Texan on MSN talking about how enough republicans crossed over to vote in the Dem primary. WHO CAN NOT NOW VOTE IN THE REPUBLICAN RUNOFF.

SO Paxton is likely to win.

what I said before. Texas is not ready to elect a black woman statewide. I too am a big fan of Rep. Crockett. But this was not her time.

A Texas Democrat is a Massachusetts Republican.

I think the Republicans who voted in the Dem primary did so because they like Talarico. And see Paxton for lowlife that he is. If crossover Republicans had done so to skew results, I think they would have voted Crockett assuming she would be easier to beat in the general.

primaries are going on on either side I doubt there are many who cross over to cause mischief.

Talarico seems to have done really well in Hispanic areas which will be a positive in November.

why Trump is demanding that the one he will not endorse drop out. He'll probably endorse Cornyn over Paxton and start a food fight. Only reason I say that is because he endorse Whatley here in NC not one that was ideologically more aligned with him.

everything went off without a hitch here in NC. The Dem turnout was up over the GOP which really was surprising to me simply because the GOP primary was more competitive than the Dem primary. Trump endorsed Michael Whatley won but Don Brown seemed to be the one that maga was enthused about. I guess not enough maga left in NC to make him win though.

When I went to vote the person looking at my ID looked at me and the DL and back again and said yeah, that's you. I never had that happen in GA. It just felt weird like I was dealing with one of those creepy election deniers. Half the people at my poll were black women so I knew they weren't going to let any funky crap go on there.

I read that a seat flipped in Arkansas. Not that it means a whole lot since it seems the legislature there is nowhere closely divided.
