Bill to Ban New Mexico Death Penalty Inches Forward

The bill to ban the death penalty in New Mexico passed another hurdle yesterday. It was approved by the Senate Rules Committee. It now goes to the Senate Judiciary Committee where prospects are said to look good.

In February, the bill passed the New Mexico House.

    If that's what the good people in NM desire, the more power to them. This is an issue up to each individual state to decide.

    keep inching, n.m., until you get there. and i must disagree: something as serious as the state sanctioning the killing of someone SHOULD NOT be up to the individual states.

    Wait a minute, if they abolish the death penalty, won't that pi$$ of God for violating his eye for an eye rule? And what will deter these people from killing rampantly? New Mexico will become the new Rwanda! All good upstanding citizens better move to a state where the death penalty is alove and well. If it works so well as a deterrent, why is it even being used?

    Ah yes, I didn't take you for a man of the cloth. The Bronze Age Yhaweh speaking. Not the New Testament Sermon in the Mound Deity. Judeo-Christianism certainly has changed, hasn't it.
