GannonGate Continues

There's more in the blogosphere today about fake reporter Jeff Gannon.

  • Crooks and Liars has the video from last night's Daily Show and a string of questions that Gannon asked McClellan.
  • Jeanne at Body and Soul is mostly on the side of those who don't get the attention being paid to the story, in light of all the other Administration abuses to concentrate on. But at the end, she seems to be willing to go along, whatever takes Bush down.

et al - Someone should ask Congresswoman Slaughter why it is any of her business. I tried, but her website blocks out all of those who are not from NY. "Jeanne is mostly on the side of those who don't get the attention being paid to the story, ..... But at the end, she seems to be willing to go along, whatever takes Bush down." So now we know the real deal. Alas, it is all for naught... What did William say? "....full of sound and fury, signifying nothing..."

Meanwhile, we have wingers like this who have the unmitigated gall to say that the issue is not Gannon's cred but the left's homophobia, and then turns around in the same breath and says, "Homosexuality, at its core, is about narcissism and self-loathing."

Can anyone provide background/info. on this claim??
...Several reporters pointed to Russell Mokhiber, editor of Corporate Crime Reporter, who has been attending press events through a daily press pass for several years. Some say he is as partisan as Gannon in his questions, but often with a left-leaning approach. One reporter called him "the ideological flip-side of Gannon..."

Joshua over at Talking Points summed it up quite nicely: Josh states: "But if it turned out that any other president -- doesn't even have to be Clinton -- had a ringer 'reporter' stationed in the press pool to serve up soft-serve questions, and the same folks had already been caught paying off or buying or otherwise subborning other 'journalists' several times in recent months, AND evidence mounted that the ringer 'reporter' turned out to be a ringer 'reporter'/GI Joe-style male prostitute with what Sid Blumenthal rightly calls "enormous potential for blackmail", don't we figure that this would have ginned up a bit more big time press razzle-dazzle and gasps and awwws by now?" Looks like the SCLM has finally gotten this story too, and from the proper persepective: It's not about sex, it's about access, security, and different standards for different groups in power. At least, to anyone not blinded by their loyalty to one political party.

Sorry, what makes him a fake reporter? Used a different name? Does that make Sean Penn or Madonna fake actors? Asked softball questions of the president? Did that make Helen Thomas or Molly Ivins fake reporters for 8 years? Work for a small web-based news agency? What does that make TalkLeft, Instapundit, Kos, and the rest of the blogosphere? -C

What does that make TalkLeft, Instapundit, Kos, and the rest of the blogosphere? People who deserve but could not get a WH press pass. Sorry, what makes him a fake reporter? Probably the fact that he is on the payroll of the administration and given a press pass and access to press conferences where he poses as a journalist.

Cliff- Someone not blinded by ideology might find that all three of the factors you cited, combined with this administrations proven track record with paying for good press is more than a bit fishy. Here's your troll cookie.

Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer was so concerned about Talon News reporter James Guckert's potential ties to the Republican Party that he stopped calling on him at press briefings for about a week in 2003, Fleischer told E&P today.
"I found out that he worked for a GOP site, and I didn't think it was my place to call on him because he worked for something that was related to the party," Fleischer said in a phone interview. "He had the editor call me and made the case that they were not related to the Republican Party. He said they used the GOP name for marketing purposes only."
...and the scales fell from his eyes...

How absurd to pillory him like this again and again as though his lack of integrity is unique, as if the general rule among these people is to do anything other than pander. Christ on a crumbheap, it's like getting pissed off at a raindrop during a thunderstorm.

this is still a first. No other president has evey inserted his own ringer to ask softball questions PERIOD. Glanton please find me an instace of this happening before. If this really does not bother you perhaps you belong in north Korea where the entire press is setup this way.
