Yesterday, the media reported Prince Charles was livid over son Harry's rental of a Nazi costume, replete with swastika, which he wore to a theme party last weekend. Charles' reported response was that Harry would visit Auschwitz to learn a little about the Holocaust.

Tonight, British media reports Charles is backing Harry and telling everyone to lay off because he apologized, and there are no plans for him to visit Auschwitz.

Prince Charles has rehired his former public relations advisers to get the family through this crisis. If it was the current PR team who came up with the Harry-goes-to-Auchwitz response, I think they are the better firm.

I also have trouble with the Queen's reported comments:

Although she agrees that Harry's decision to dress as a Nazi was ill-advised, she has acknowledged that he did so at a private party and that he genuinely meant no harm.

To think that Harry's act is less offensive because it occurred at a private party only shows that the Queen is in need of some serious senstivity training herself. As I said yesterday, Harry probably picked it up at the royal dinner table, and if so, the whole family (and probably the staff)could use some remedial education.

    so was this a costume party? are nazis among the sacred icons that must not ever be defiled by being represented at costume parties?

I don't know in details about England, but in France, Harry would go to prison for what he did. Nazi symbols are totally forbidden and can instantaneously send you to prison.

    What Ernesto del Mundo said (although having been to Bitburg myself I have to be careful. Did avoid the cemetery and stuck to the USAF base there). Imagine that - a president of the US said that SS soldiers were also victims of the Nazi´s. Bryan, I graduated from a US Department of Defense High School in Germany. We did the play of the Diary of Anne Frank and were putting posters around town that had a swastika on it until the community commander of the American community advised us that was against German law.

    Does anyone besides me find it freaking bizarre that the party Harry was attending was...a "Colonials and Natives" theme party? I mean, what were the OTHER attendees wearing...? Not that it excuses Harry, but in context, how much more outrageous and offensive was his choice than the rest of the guests in pith helmets & khakis...or bones through their noses, blackface and grass skirts? Who ARE these people? jp

    Who ARE these people? They are the sad remainder of the 19th Century for whom the 20th never happened. Remember that in England the concept in our Declaration of Independence that "All Men are Created Equal" is treason. The Royal Family rules Great Britain and is head of the Church of England by Divine Right (God says they are born to reign). Don't forget when it was revealed that Harry had a girlfriend from Zimbabwe and was asked if that was an appropriate for a prince he replied, "it's not like she's black." if you people didn't do worse when you were twenty you aren't experienced enough to judge anyone. Well I may have (I never dressed up as a Nazi), but then again I am not the official representative of a nation of 60 million people. A job that, although I may not have asked for it, is 24/7, but overall is not very hard and doesn't require much more than staying relatively sober and not saying or doing anything embaressing or stupid. The current Royal Family can't even manage those simple tasks.

    soullite, you are a moron. do the human genome pool a favor, leave it, by the most expeditious means available. young prince harry, of all the people in the world, should have known better. what the hell did they teach that boy in school? his father, prince "yes i am a dork brain, the ears are merely an outer manifestation of my inner dork" charles, is an even bigger chucklehead than i already thought. of course, inbreeding for hundreds of years will do that. it would never have occurred to me, even at age 20, to think that dressing up like hitler would be a good choice for any party, costume or otherwise. it would have been just as unthinkable to dress up as either a slave, or a plantation owner. some things just aren't subject to humor.

    Why do you think we had something called a Revolt against that group of low life Rats back in 1775? don't you get it? most of that family would have loved to see A.H., In power just like many of you would, but sad to say people are not the same race or the same ideals as of 1941-45, you just don't get it. Put the kid in prison, or put this little Rat in Auschwitz for real see how he likes it. Long live the old USA.

Nazi from the dictionary: Nazi: a member of a German fascist party controlling Germany from 1933 to 1945 under Adolf Hitler Fascism from same dictionary: a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition 2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control Right, there's no chance or danger of fascisim or nazi resurgence in the world, is there? Can we check in some Iraqi's, Palestinians, or Afghanis about this?

    A.J. - To do that he would have to marry a Catholic ar a divorcee. Nazi symbols don't even come close.
