Inaugural Balls Announced

Here's the list of inaugural balls set for Bush's second coronation. Check out the names: There's the Stars and Stripes Ball, the Freedom Ball, the Patriot Ball, the Liberty Ball, the Democracy Ball, the Independence Ball...it's enough to make you sick.

On that topic, say hello to Makes Me Ralph, a (mostly) Colorado blog.

Back to the Balls, I wonder if there's any chance MTV will replay the 1993 MTV inaugural ball for then-President Clinton. Maybe they could replay it on the 19th or in the late afternoon or evening of the 20th. It opened with Don Henley singing "Dirty Laundry" and Leonard Cohen's "Democracy." ("Democracy is coming, to the U.S.A.") Even Bob Dylan's "The Times, They Are a Changing." Talk about a backslide...

Unfortunate comments from the past: Clinton blew through 14 Inaugural Balls... - USA Today I believe MTV hosted one of Clinton's gala's. So, are you upset that the Bushies are doing it more nicely, or what? -C

No, Cliff. It's because this administration says we are at war. I have answered the call to send phone cards and clothes to injured soldiers. I am supporting my son during his time in the Army. While our troops will be dying in the ill-defined, when-will-we-know-we-won War on Terror®, the government will be dancing, and drinking, and eating. By throwing "a total of nine inaugural balls, a youth concert, a parade, a fireworks display", these actions show how insulated the government is from its policies. These tuxedo-clad, limousine-patriots and those who fund them will do nothing to protect the citizenry at home or foster moderation abroad. After all, we are at war... aren't we?

No, Doctor Ace. My son is in the Army; the military has yet to issue him body armor. It will cost me $1,300 to buy "type-4". What's irrational is partying while blood of "our heroic youth spills on the glorious field of battle." A quote that was stupid during the Civil War and it's doubly stoopid (with two oh's) today.

I'm pretty suprised they would play a song like "democracy". I'm reasonably sure you and they have never listene to it.

Once again, the behavior exhibits the irrational Bush hatred. No matter what he does... P.J. O'Rourke once wrote that the Dems, in their political correctness would have to stick to entertainment like "Hava Nagilah played on marimbas", whereas the Reps are free to play thinks like "Soul Finger" (used at Bush Sr.'s victory party). Amusical incompetents like Henley and "Dylan" singing tribal entertainment products like "dirty laundry" and "times-a-changin'" are ironically appropriate for the Dems. [Dr. Ace, you're over limit for today. Feel free to come back tomorrow.]

If Bush isnt a walking "tribal entertainment product" - said tribes well-being maintained by fresh supplies of dead A-rabs,"we're the bestest, most wonderfulest ever"rhetoric, and always remembering to say"thank you sir,may I have another"as theyre out-sourced and down-sized.

Why Kerry lost: Democrats lack inaugural balls.

Darryl - If you'll send TalkLeft your address I'll pitch in a couple of hundred bucks for your sons body armor. I'm sure everyone else will help too. -C PS - I am conflicted about having Xmass, Thanksgiving, Inagurations, R/D Conventions, etc during a war. Heck, a one day moritorium of advertisements would have saved enough for every cop in the US to have a vest.

Thanks, all. However, I learned from my son today... that "no non-issue equipment" can be used. Catch-22... heh.

Darryl - Your son must be someplace very strange - I've raised money for several sets of body armor, non-standard sniper scopes, etc. F*ck it - send it on, tell him to tuck in his shirt or something. My offer stands. -C

Darryl - That's a standard regulation. They don't want folks showing up with pearl handle pistols and muskets... Okay, the examples are extreme, but you get the drift. Causes supply chain problems, and God forbid you should disturb a Supply Clerk's morning. In my time the big deal was flight boots. The standard issue ones sucked, so everyone ignored the rule and purchased their own. I had a friend who wanted two flack vests. One to wear and one to set on. He says he traded two cartons of Camels and one 40 oz jug of scotch for the second one, off base. At that point he said he knew just how fu*cked up the situation was. I'll kick in $100. TL, will you bank it until we get $1300 and send it on to DP? Who else will join in?

The chances of the Dems ever having a ball again or slim to nil. George W has turned this country around- morally and physically. The left's hatred of the US has shown itself to be very clear, and the people have lost interest in this self hating party. Oh yeah, Hillary is thier great white hope? God save the dems

So, whatcha doing here on Talk Left, Dwain_l? We progressives appear to be headed towards extinction, why not stay over on the Fox and Freeper sites with the astute and secure masses? Inaugural balls? Nope, I am still not going, though a co-worker is going to the WA State governor's inauguration and ball next week. Not my kind of event. Figure we could also spend the money, private or public, in better ways. Here's a quote from GW the first: It is essential to bear in mind that toward the payment of debts there must be revenue; that to have revenue, there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant. George Washington, 1796 Anybody know how much was spent on early inaugural galas?

Darryl - Hey, I admitted to my sins, and quoted a un-named co-conspirator, so yeah. Why not? I also had a pair of sexy non-approved sunglasses, a survival knife that was non-standard and a flight jacket that was so cool. Boy, confession is good for the soul. CA - Hope your friend enjoys. I understand they will have a large number of guests. 129 for sure, but they aren't going to validate the other 11,300 attendees. Wouldn't want to throw any good Demos out. Yes, I am personally in favor of a revote in WA State. No matter how many times we count and dispute the vote, it's been a statistical tie. Would be a good precedent for questionable elections. But the person who is ahead is always saying seems like we have counted enough now. That one crosses party lines pretty easily.

Or, better yet, how about they take the $40 million dollars they're going to spend on the asinine balls and donate it to Tsunami relief? Pathetic.
