New Evidence in JonBenet Ramsey Case

It will be 8 years next week that JonBenet Ramsey was murdered and the crime remains unsolved. But, there is new evidence pointing to an intruder, and evidence that the killer may have tried to strike again in Boulder less than a year later, but was interrupted. The victim,, who was sexually assualted but not killed (her mother came in the room and the intruder fled) attended the same dance class as JonBenet. More egg on the face of the Boulder police, who never connected the dots.

Catch the story tonight on CBS' "48 hours." More details by me here, as well as this observation:

John and Patsy Ramsey were treated like criminals for six years. The public and the media lynch mob criticized everything about them, from the way they behaved to their "lawyering up." Even Governor Owens criticized them for "hiding behind their lawyers."

Put yourselves in the Ramseys' shoes. Your cherished daughter has just been murdered. Instead of being able to grieve, every move you make is met with criticism. The police label you as being "under the umbrella of suspicion" and stop searching elsewhere for the killer of your daughter. You are fodder for the cable TV talk shows night after night.

Watching talk show hosts like Dan Abrams and Geraldo Rivera now admit the Ramseys did not kill their daughter brings some measure of satisfaction to those of us, myself included, who defended the Ramseys on their shows night after night. An apology from the Boulder police, the media, and the public would be even better.

People sometimes fail to realize that when the wrong person is accused, the real killer remains at large and likely will strike again. Shortly after JonBenet's murder, Boulder's then-Mayor Leslie Durgin told the public:

"People in Boulder have no need to fear there is someone wandering the streets of Boulder looking for someone to attack. Boulder is safe,'' she said.

She was wrong. If you live in Boulder, you better lock your doors at night. Unless he's moved, a killer is among you.

i am in a forensic class at my local high school and i am just touching the surface of this case. so far from the loads of info. my teacher has piled on us it seems that the whole case is based on the way you want to view the ramsey. guilty or not guilty. just like oj just like scott peterson. so i don't know why everyone is so caught up in finding the true killer?for all we know it is the parents.. but the basic fact is she was a little white girl whose family has enough connections as well as money to hide the fact that they might have killed their daughter or hired someone to murder her. i am very concerned on why people are not investigating murders that happen in low budget areas to kids of color? to me the whole thing just shows how america values favoritism and is still racist.

Does anyone care that those investagaters are all on the Ramsey payroll? And that he is running for office! Ask a detective in the case, the Ramseys are still under that umbrella.
