Stupid Criminal of the Week

by TChris

This poor guy really needed a drink.

Ronald Langdale, 58, of Los Angeles ... allegedly robbed the Bank of America near Beach Boulevard and Ellis Avenue about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, ordering a teller to hand over money. He told her he had a weapon, police said, but none was seen. After the teller complied, police said, the robber left with an undisclosed amount and walked [across the mall parking lot] to [Mario's Restaurant], took a seat at the bar and ordered a beer.

Langlade started counting "a wad of money" while he sipped his beer. A few minutes later, police entered the bar looking for witnesses to the robbery, and noticed that Langdale matched the description of the robber that tellers had provided.

Ronald Langdale purposely robbed the bank to get arrested and avoid being homeless.

On or about 9-12-2007, after an August release from prison for the first robbery in 2004, Ronald left his homeless shelter and did the same thing again (without the beer) by presenting a note to a bank teller in LA requesting money.

He is currently awaiting trial.  He is 64 years old, a former member of the US Army and currently has health & mental problems.  Since Social Security, a lack of a universal Health Care, and his own family cannot help him, it would seem he has decided to get a universal health care by way of the Federal prison systems.

Is this a sign of things to come?

As far as being a "stupid criminal of the week," in actuality, it would seem that Ronald may have been simply savoring what may have been his last beer before entering what he would have known to be a long prison term.
