Conflicting Reports on Rove

The New York Times reports that Libby likely will be indicted but Rove will remain under investigation and Fitzgerald will extend the investigation. The Wall St. Journal (free link) has similar information.

The Washington Post reports Fitzgerald won't extend the investigation, and Rove still fears being indicted.

How can both be true? One possibility is that all indictments but Rove's were voted on and filed with the Court on Wednesday, and Fitzgerald agreed to wait until tomorrow to make a decision on Rove.

But I just don't see Fitzgerald extending this grand jury.

If the cooperative Karl Rove, who testified four times to the grand jury, isn't indicted, here's my speculation why.

I still have nagging doubts that Dick Cheney is out of the woods. If he weren't, it certainly would explain the extraordinary shroud of secrecy over the final outcome.

Does anyone believe Rove would not have given Cheney up in these final days to get a pass from Fitzgerald?

I'm not saying I believe Cheney will be indicted - only that it remains a possibility.

It's So Crazy, It Just Might Work. To derail his own indictment, Karl Rove is up late tonight urging President Bush to nominate Patrick Fitzgerald to the Supreme Court.

Well progressive minds think alike. I also think Rove may well have rolled on Cheney and in fact may have done so by agreement. Someone has to take care of George and Rove is the better handler. And Dawn, I don't think it's so crazy. Fitzgerald would be an interesting choice.
