Trump Floats Election Delay Balloon, Sinks Right Away

No, Trump cannot unilaterally delay the November 2020 election. Even Republicans are shooting that possibility down.

Trump grows more desperate by the day.

How about we accelerate the date of the election and get this nightmare over with?

    Delay of the November election (5.00 / 1) (#9)

is no common Trump distraction.  Delay of the November election is not a trial ballon.  Although it is both.

It is primarily, a plan.   Indicators are being rolled out so as to normalize the idea.  Trump's tweet and today's pressor,  his attack on voting by mail,  corruption of the US Postal Service, including the appointment of a loyal henchman/big donor as Postmaster.  And, then there is Barr's disingenuous answer to this question by a Congressman as to the legality- " he hasn't looked into it",  and, while he admits to no evidence, he believes that there is a high risk of vote by mail fraud.

While we have the Constitution, election law, and norms, they will not protect the country from Trumpian chaos.  And, those grand re-assurances from Moscow Mitch et. al, are as valuable as those Confederate bonds in their cookie jars.

Trump is desperate and, in essence, a coup of this stripe is not beyond him.  All those Putin calls could well be election coaching, although this kind of chicanery seems innate to Trump.

Delay might work against suppression efforts (none / 0) (#10)

    I thought that
...2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history...
was a campaign promise from the Republican Party - or, at least, a plank in their platform.

Including Mitch have issued statements saying no, we will not delay the election.

But it's worth noting almost every one of them have included a little caveat about "making sure it's fair and safe".

Translation, they would be fine with lying and suppression.

Trump just explained his intentions.  Live.  He repeated what he tweeted

"Must know Election results on the night of the Election, not days, months, or even years later!"

As I said.  I think we might know.  But that won't make him happy either

With all these republicans coming down with it maybe the virus will solve this problem for us.   Anything is possible.

He said it and it will come to pass. Suing is his bread and butter. Bill Maher called it a long time ago. This guy isn't leaving on his own. He basically announced it tonight. He will sue. He will challenge the results state by state.

I hope he doesn't leave on his own. I relish the sight of him being physically dragged out and dumped into the street. Him and the rest of the family,

    (That's real boredom)
But I was thinking one thing Barr did was suggest he would do what he could but in the end he would save himself.

Like the question about if he would resign if Trump lost.  He said, I can't remember the exact quote, sure, if it was clear I would resign.

I sort of think that's probably right.  He will do whatever he can do without exposing himself to real legal danger.  And no more.  He would quickly toss Trump under the bus if necessary.
