...this seems right. I still think he may have been the early bird cooperator of the three though, and this stipulation kind of reinforces that.

    Robel SIgned a Confession (none / 0) (#2)

According to FBI Agent Cieplik, Robel admitted, by signing a written statement, that he lied to other agents about his knowledge of the removal of the backpack and laptop from the dormitory room.  I suppose his ultimate fate depends on how much mercy is the hearts of judges and prosecutors.

dumbass who made a choice to cover for his friends.  But this is the sort of thing you do when you don't want your friends getting caught dealing pot.  How could he be this stupid and if he is not this stupid, well then it is worse because making a bomb and killing people is not just some stunt.
I want to know what was in his head.  I would have loved to have been there when he made that confession.

his statement was uncounseled (none / 0) (#4)

and he didn't admit it until the fourth interview. Then they wrote up his 4th version and had him sign it.

Do you really think they didn't threaten him with being charged with the bombing if he didn't conform his story to what they wanted to hear? Or play a lot of other dirty tricks (like telling him the others had given him up, true or not?) When the FBI comes to interrogate you on four separate days in a row and you are 19 years old and you don't have a lawyer, and you are suspected of being involved in a major act of terrorism, you are going to be scared to death and do what they say.

He's not even charged with aiding and abetting the destruction of evidence -- solely with making false statements.

Don't presume him guilty and don't trust uncounseled incrimininating statements.

Even after all three made statements admitting going to the dorm, the statements still don't match -- read the timeline in the complaint.
