"Jihad Jane" Indicted in Philadelphia

Colleen LaRose, aka "Jihad Jane" and Jamie Paulin Ramirez were indicted yesterday in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The indictment is here.

Both are charged with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists and conspiracy to kill in a foreign country. LaRose is also charged with making false statements to federal officials and attempted identity theft. [More...]

According to the superseding indictment, Ramirez exchanged e-mail messages with LaRose during the summer of 2009, in which LaRose invited Ramirez to join her in Europe to attend a "training camp."

Ramirez is charged with accepting the invitation and asking to bring along her minor son. On Sept. 12, Ramirez traveled to Europe with her son with the intent to live and train with jihadists.

The day she arrived in Europe, the indictment alleges, Ramirez married an unindicted co-conspirator whom she had never before met in person.

Ramirez' husband is reported to be the alleged leader of the terrorist plot, Algerian Ali Charaf Damache.

Jihad Jane was arrested months ago. Ramirez was arrested today after voluntarily flying back to Pennsylvania from overseas.

"Conspiracy"?

These sound like the kind of garbage charges a prosecutor uses when he has no evidence and no probable cause to even believe a crime was committed.

The entire prosecution sounds grossly unconstitutional and in a society that operated by the rule of law, this kind of charge would be thrown out before it ever got to indictment stage.

At this point, America is about one step above arresting and trying people for "hooliganism" and "insulting the dignity of the state." What's the actual crime here?

She married a terrorist so that he has legal status to travel.
She is helping to transfer money.
She is going to get training.
She has solicited funds for the terrorists.
Now all of these are accusations and not proven YET. However, don't you think getting terrorist MONEY to buy bombs is not a "garbage charge" if proven? Don't you think helping a terrorist to get inside a country to commit murder if not a "garbage charge" if proven?

Actively "dating" someone who is plotting to kill & murder ... and giving him money .. is a crime .. and not surprisingly so. (Of course she has to be proven guilty first).
