Also on the subject of New York, the first of Bernie Kerik's three federal criminal trials begins October 13. The prosecutor's jury questionaire asks that prospective jurors be quizzed about their opinions of Rudy. I actually hope Bernie wins (since they deprived him of two of his lawyers of choice, first my pal Joe Tacopina and then Ken Breen -- and really, were his home renovations a big enough deal to warrant wiretaps?) but I'd like to see Rudy get tarnished some more in the process. The Government will be using a colorful informant against Bernie (Larry Ray). Background here and here.
On a related note, opening arguments were today in NY State Sen. Hiram Monserrate's trial to the court in which he's accused of cutting his girlfriend's face with broken glass. Mosnserrate's attorney, Joe Tacopina, argued the incident was a freak accident. Montserrate's girlfriend agrees, and may not even be called by the prosecution.
