    The R's can only win this election by riding the swiftboats to victory.  There has never been the slightest doubt about that.  The only thing that has made things even slightly interesting is that the Dems managed to nominate the candidate most susceptible to being swamped.  If Obama loses, in an electoral cycle like this, he and every Dem that ever supported him deserves to be run out of town on a rail.

    I think a positive, inspiring campaign could do it this time, but this attacking McCain stuff does not get me excited, and does not seem to work very well.

    people, but I think the coke use is Obama's fatal flaw, politically; furthermore, the fact the Republicans hardly mentioned it while Obama was wrapping up the nomination tells me they were holding back.

    think it alone will be a huge problem. The problem is that it will help create a narrative of a candidate who throughout his life has made poor choices--drug use, TUCC, Jeremiah Wright, Rezko etc.

    pols are pols.  And didn't we end up supporting a certain candidate not because his issues were any different but because he was more electable based on media preference?

    And so Novak says media preference will determine the General Election too!

    so this is mccain's best strategy; of course they always play nasty.  BTW- example of media bias: Obama goes overseas and 200 reporters follow, all 3 network anchors pull up stakes to follow.  Mccain goes overseas and media yawns-most barely  report on it.
