Tom Tancredo Heads to Iowa to Gauge Presidential Chances

Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo, the one issue politician, is headed to Iowa to test the waters for a possible presidential run in 2008.

Tancredo, known for his outspoken criticism of illegal immigration, will meet with Iowa GOP leaders and grassroots activists to see how they would respond if he ran, Tancredo spokesman Carlos Espinosa said.

....Tancredo views the trip as vital in his decision whether to run, Espinosa said. "A lot hinges on this — this weekend will determine a lot," Espinosa said.

He's also promoting his latest book. And in case you already didn't know this, John McCain also opposes a guest worker program. Just another strike against him in my book.

the only way crops will not lie fallow in the fields is by breaking the law, then there is a problem.

Besides any other year, the fallow fields would be covered with snow now and you would need a snow blower to see the true fallowness. Run by illegals no doubt.

in lakewood in 2002, i often visited my friend who was then the vice-consul for mexico at the mexican consulate in denver... a terrific guy, he got caught up in the vicious world of ted t when ted decided to go tooth and nail after the son of illegal mexican aliens... the young man had been quite nicely and compassionately written up in the denver post because he was an exceptionally gifted high school student, but, because of his legal status, was ineligible for financial aid or scholarship assistance... as was his duty, my friend took up the boy's defense only to find himself being slimed by ted, and, subsequently, the object of hate mail and threats... the poor man was horrified at what was being directed at him, however, he persevered and was able to broker an anonymous individual's offer for a full ride for the boy to any university of his choice, a lovely ending... nonetheless, my impression of ted as a hateful, vicious man has persisted to this day...

And, yes, I DO take it personally

For the actual facts of this matter, here's more on the Denver Post collaborating with the Mexican government. Other newspapers have run dozens of very similar stories; here are examples of pro-illegal immigration propaganda. And, here's more on the general topic of Mexico's undiplomatic diplomats.

The reader is invited to sit down with pen and paper and write down all of those who profit from illegal immigration and decide whose side they want to be on.

Iowa GOPs don't seem to know who Tancredo is. (none / 0) (#4)

That statement is based on a poll posted by an Iowa GOP blogger called Krusty Konservative.

I doubt that Tancredo expects to win the nomination.

I do expect that he intends to bring the issue into a full and open discussion.
