Snowball Rummy: The Shrewdest Man in Washington

Sally Quinn inadvertently performs a great public service by demonstrating, in no uncertain terms, how clueless the Beltway Media is:

Don Rumsfeld is the shrewdest person in Washington.

Oh there's more of course but let's consider that one line and think about how clueless and out of touch one would have to be to write that. I would say it gets better but of course, after that start, that is impossible, but this is almost its equal:

It is hard for the American people to turn completely against the president. It seems tantamount to patricide. We're much more comfortable being able to blame someone else for the president's mistakes. Laura Bush will never be the scapegoat. For now, it's [Snowball] Rumsfeld.

Lakoff vindicated one might say - strict father and all that. Except for the fact that the President's rating are in the 30s. Oh and the only for GOP Presidents Sally Quinn rule. See, she led the charge against Clinton trashing "her town."

Quinn is one piece of work I must tell you, but emblematic of all the Beltway Media. They thought these things for years. And things like this:

In any event, Cheney is low-profile, secretive, nonconfrontational -- and presumably too experienced to allow himself to be easily made the scapegoat. But if Rumsfeld goes, the attention and criticism can be directed only to Cheney, or to Bush.

Seriously now, she thinks Darth Cheney is not detested by the entire country? Maybe not at her coktail parties in Georgetown, but the rest of the country? Cheney's approval ratings are in the 20s, lower than Nixon ever was.

But this is the laugh out loud part, get how Rummy is gonna rehabiliate himself:

I suspect that he has already told the president and Cheney that he will leave after the midterm elections, saying that the country needs new leadership to wind down the war. And he will resign to take a job in some sort of humanitarian venture, thereby creating the perception that he is a caring person who left of his own accord to devote the rest of his life to good works.

I am sorry, "devote the rest of his life to good works?" Yeah that'll do the trick. For crissakes.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is our Queen of the Beltway Media. You may shudder now.
