Condi Rice Shops for Shoes, Works on Backhand

Condi Rice should expect some heat over this:

Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue, Condoleeza Rice was seen spending several thousands of dollars on some nice, new shoes (we’ve confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get coverage from the WaPo’s Robin Givhan). A fellow shopper, unable to fathom the absurdity of Rice’s timing, went up to the Secretary and reportedly shouted, “How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!” Never one to have her fashion choices questioned, Rice had security PHYSICALLY REMOVE the woman.

She's also working on her backhand with Monica Sales at the U.S. Open. And, as Drudge reports, last night she attended a Broadway play.

Eyewitness: Sec of State Condi Rice laughs it up at 'Spamalot' while Gulf Coast lays in tatters. Theater goers on New York' City's Great White Way were shocked to see the President's former National Security Advisor at the Monty Python farce last night -- as the rest of the cabinet responds to Hurricane Katrina...

"Never one to have her fashion choices questioned, Rice had security PHYSICALLY REMOVE the woman." What a nice lady. I can tell she loves freedom. (And yes, this woman could have been a terorrist and she wasn't looking out for herself she was looking out for all of us blah blah blah...)

Oh my gosh - the Secretary of State, who has no actual responsibility in the area of disaster recovery, is doing other things! How pathetic can you get?

Using the convoluted thinking of the Bush administration, Condiliar Rice will get the Medal of Freedom for having the "terrorist" who was screaming at her removed from the the store. God, I love this country.

why not? its all a joke anyway, listen to what bush is talking about on FOX News, you got to love this joke, but i do feel his pain, and bush will look good on a tree someday. as a old guy do any of you have nude pic's of condi rice, not with bush, no boys. and the dismantling plan is coming along just find. gas $10.50 soon.

You're suggesting the "not my job" rationalization, jr?

We're skirtin' the tree tops folks. And we are extrmely vulnerable right now. The Guard is razor thin. Bushco's response to the disaster is to wait 3 days and then ask US for money. As if we haven't figured this all out already. Jeez he is comfortably numb. At least they cracked his genetic code. Where's Bin Laden? Remember him? You think he's sitting by his TV right now? Arrest that SOB for gross negligence in his "leadership" role. STORM THE WH ON 9/24!!

I'll think that TL is serious - with these sorts of critiques - just as soon as TL goes off the air and shows up in NO to volunteer. Which is not to say that I think TL should drop everything and charge down there - but if Condi Rice should, then so should I, every commenter here, and TL. It's every bit as much our job as it is hers.

It's every bit as much our job as it is hers.
I see. A cabinet secretary--and rumored Presidential candidate--has no more responsibility in a time of crisis than any other citizen? Thanks for clearing that up.

If arrogance were not the message here Condi would have been more discreet. She is a public figure and what she does is a message to us all. Jr. what do you think she is telling america here. Oh, TL is great but in no way to be compared to Condi. Condi made a choice to be a high ranking public figure and as a result bears responsibility for her every action, even shopping, (remember the media madness re Clintons haircuts, no disasters then), and scrutiny by the public regarding those actions. Give it a rest JR.

It's kind of like Versailles in the court of Louis XIV

The above was me. Forgot to fill my name in ;-)

Scotty McLellan was just saying that the State department's responsible for coordinating relief assistance being offered to us by other countries (and yes, it's being offered). So yeah, I think there are a few things Ms. Rice could be doing about now.

Yesterday HS banned Canada from delivering much needed water and supplies. What was up with that Condi?

Yes JR we should all go there and add to the demands for food and water. JR you need to email Jack Cafferty with your approval of the Bushco relief response. He has the question up on his show and says that the feedback is 100% negative for their response.

Please tell us what you would have the SecofState do? Sit and wring her hands? nolo - So you think she should involved in the routine type activities. Yes, I am sure she is an expert in coordination. BTW - Can you tell us what countries have offered what? The only one I am aware of is Israel. Et al – The last 48 hours has proven to be the worst case of Bush Haters At Work -BHAW – that I have seen in quite a while. My congratulations.

MSNBC's got news on foreign aid offered to the U.S., including a list of the countries, here. And it's not just Israel. And with the offers coming in from high-ranking foreign officials, I expect the Secretary of State to do what she apparently seems to be doing now, which is to be there to respond personally. Plus, with the crisis in full swing, and people dying even as you're reading this, I don't think it's unreasonable for this country's leadership to act like something worth their attention is going on.

More than 20 countries, from allies Germany and Japan to prickly Venezuela and poor Honduras, have offered to help the United States cope with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

That wouldn't be very helpful. Perhaps instead she could be working with some of the foreign countries that have offered assistance.

JR, I helped out in Andrew, I helped out in last year's series of three. How many disasters has Condi (or any rightie here) helped out in.

Che: "STORM THE WH ON 9/24!!" Don't say stuff like that, Che. Desperation is not the form of our protest, and violence is COUNTER-PRODUCTIVE. The cordon around these aristocrat traitors would LOVE to try out their new crowd-control Microwave weapon, their new bug-sprays and electric eel flying wires. If you think Bush can be brought down by frontal assault, you are much more of an idiot than I thought. :-)

More to the point is how many disaster she's CAUSED.

"Perhaps instead she could be working with some of the foreign countries that have offered assistance." She's accepted all that. Now what ELSE would you have her do? Go down to the docks and physically unload crates?

Roger - Don't you live in the Orlando area? And do you really think it would be productive for Rice to be down in NO? nolo - Dosen't surprise me. But "right now?" Come on, don't be shy. And it sure looks like the government's attention is focused on this. Sailor - Thanks. BTW - I loved the last paragraph:
Cuban President Fidel Castro, a close Chavez ally, led a minute of silence in homage to victims of Katrina in parliament on Thursday. The parliament then returned to normal business with a resolution attacking Bush over the Iraq war.

How about RESIGN, Joe. How about go out dancing on the corpses piling up in Haiti, where she said she "doesn't want to see him (Aristide) in this hemisphere" even though he is the legally-elected president of the country? Participating in genocide is just part of her job, eh? Rice is a traitor. She ought to shoot herself.

JR- 3 Hurricanes in Orlando last year, I lived in Miami back during Andrew. And yes, I do expect our public officials to tour scenes, give speechs, raise hopes and quench fears. Call me old fashioned

She's accepted all that. Now what ELSE would you have her do? Go down to the docks and physically unload crates?
Perhaps you have a better understanding than I do of how these things work. See, I thought that there would be more to it than just saying something like, "Sure, we could use a few extra helicopters" and then skipping off to the tennis court. I guess you're probably right. This is an ideal time for Condi to take a vacation since everybody else is too busy to meet with her.

Oh believe me, ppj, I'm not shy. Neither are the Bush supporters who share my shock at all this. Consider this e-mail posted on the NRO Corner:
A lot of Bush fans are frankly aghast at how tone-deaf the president is at this moment. They just showed clips of New Orleans prisoners sitting in a huge group, some of them handcuffed together with plastic cuffs with flood water lapping at their feet. They have been there for two days. Prisoners have their shirts pulled over their noses because the stench is too overwhelming.
The scenes I'm seeing on Fox are things you'd think you'd only see in Somalia or Bangladesh. This is the United States of America. We can't get a single truck full of water to these people? We can't get a single helicopter to fly over and drop supplies? A cop car and a military truck roll up from the distance, giving the suffering people hope. Do they stop as the desperate wave? No. They drive through. They can't even stop to tell them where they should go to get any life-saving water or food. I am starting to feel a mixture of outrage and shame...
And that's from people who voted for the guy. You can read the rest here.

The Canadian armed forces as well as various government and aid agencies have offered help to the United States. (See for example today's Globe and Mail). So yes, Rice could make herself plenty busy coordinating with those countries that are offering to help if she chose to. It certainly must be puzzling to them to see that she is buying expensive shoes and practicing her tennis.

Someone should find this shopper and get the accoount straight from them on videotape. Should Condi decide to seek the presidency, this would make a great ad against her:Show the shopper giving their account of events, then put on the screen: Does our country need eight more years of this?

Maybe she could buy a fiddle. Then she could form a band with W on lead guitar

Why think in terms of fours and eights? We haven't had a legal election in five years, and we aren't going to get any next year, either, though some states, like California, will have some sort of recount right returned to us by then. Down with Diebold! Down with the traitors who stole our votes.
